Yeah, I've always thought Korg really bolloxed up OASYS. It was some of the
best sounding DSP based synthesis I've ever heard, right up there Creamware
and Waldorf and Access and the big boys. It's been a while since I've used
it but I remember it being one of the first 'in the box' things that really
got the 'rip' right on the oscillators and filters. The studio monitors sounded
like they were going to blow up. The same tech would be great in an external
box like my (really cool) Liquid Mix if they had written a DAW front end
for it, which doesn't seem like rocket science anymore.
I think they still are handicapped by the 'we build boxes' mentality. Which
is fine, maybe they can make money doing that, but it let OASYS wither on
the vine in the worst way.
Anyway, native synths are getting really, really close to being as good as
any DSP synth I've ever heard, so even if Korg really did something right
with the tech now we'd be using phrases that include the words 'locked,'
'barn door,' 'horse,' and 'bolted.'
