The same to you and yours, Tony.

The little woman and I are just staying around the area - we decided
years ago to skip the family "guilt trip" because while the families
were happy to see Aunt Sheri and Uncle Paul, by the time they got
driving from Chicago to St. Louis, from St. Louis to Indianapolis, and
from Indianapolis back to NW Indiana (Chicago), Aunt Sheri and Uncle
Paul were completely wasted. Not so much fun for them.

We'll probably head into Chicago, have dinner at the chop suey joint
("A Christmas Story" reference......a tradition now with us) and go
see a movie.

Merry Christmas.

pabI hope everyone has a nice holiday. Thanks Kim for keeping this place going.
I’ll be happy to get a SACD or two.
For those who are traveling, be safe.

It’s hard to go wrong with a good sampler like Kontakt. You can always add
more samples libraries later. Many of the GigaStudio libraries are available
for Kontakt, and it generally does a good job opening patches from other
samplers.
Kontakt is quite powerful and surprisingly easy to use. The basic string
library that comes with it is fine, but I don’t like the standard pianos
very much.
I still tend to reach for Giga for Pianos and strings and MachFive or Giga
for critical sonic use, but I recommend Kontakt as the best choice for a
single sampler setup.
I can’t speak to Cubase integration; other then to say Kontakt works well
in V-Stack.

I sounds like you may be better off with individual VSTI plugs instead of
a sampler, like Ivory for piano, EWQLSO Gold for strings, B4 for organ, and
perhaps Culture for percussion.
What kind of percussion are you looking for?
Gene
The Grand…not for me.Hi Gene,

Thanks for the feedback. Having heard the EW Bosendorfer 290, I'm really
leaning toward that for my primary piano. I just ordered another 2G of
Corsair 3200c2pt unbuffered RAM for my DAW to bump it up to it's 4G limit.
The Bosendorfer is sampled at 16 layers and just sounds exactly like a piano
is right in the room with you. It's scary realistic. I still haven't bought
it so I'm looking around for opinions on Ivory as well. I don't think the
Ivory instruments are sampled in quite so much detail, but I also wonder if
it would make that much difference.

I'm going to get the B4 also and probably Kontact. I hear there are some
nice string libraries for Kontact.

As for percussion, I'm not needing anything quite as comprehensive as
Culture, though it would be nice. I've got some Halion Latin percussion
samples here and perhaps Kontact could play them or I might just spring for
the Halion player.

Merry Christmas ;o)

>Dear DJ,
I am gonna suggest once again Creamware Pulsar card which excep[t for the
great adat/spdif routings has the greatest plugz/synths compared to anything
out there.
It has great samplers (no latency) that can load Akai format sample library
too, has the best sounding B3 emulation synth named B2003 along with fantastic
synthesizers like Minimoog and Prophet...
You can pick up a used one card that comes along with with synth package
and update for 98 Euros to 4.5 and get your free B2003 Prophet and some great
plugz at that price (Christmas offer).
If you insist on VSTI native host I would suggest the great sounding IK Sampletank
which I believe has the best (warm) sound of all including Halion and the
others.
Also has very good compression as effect amoung many other (the sound is
so nice).
You have to lay your hands on a Creamware Pulsar II card.
Note that their samplers use memory only no disk caching.
Merry Christmas,
Dimitrios

I have the PMI Bosendorfer 290 for GigaStudio and I agree that it is a superior
sounding sampled piano. It’s wonderful for “classical” uses but it has a
hard time in more “pop” type mixes where it seems a little distant and mellow
to me.

I really miss running into the City to Sorcerer Sound for quick, inexpensive
piano sessions with a world-class setup :-(> dude, you have way too much money.

Not any more.

d School” sounding,
but a little too dull for my tastes. It worked far better than EQ alone and
the drums really pop.

It wasn’t clear in David’s email if this was free to everyone, or just users,
but if you are interested I guess you could email him and ask.
His EQ is amazingly competitive to the Weiss and Audiorithmix. This is a
developer to watch.

For ColorTone Pro users: Don’t miss the Universal Audio 175 impulses for
CTP. Great stuff.
http://www.tritonedigital.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=515

I think these would work in other impulse players like SIR, although I haven’t
tried yet.

I’m off to Present-Land.

Genenow you have to read all thos manuals :-)

Are you using this while tracking, during mixdown, or are you doing corrections
and then rendering a corrected track? ThanksYou gotta hear this.........

There is a new kind of synthesizer called Synful Orchestra that is
smart about articulations -- runs, legato, detache etc. You can hear it at
www.synful.com. There are examples of Rite of Spring, Beethoven
String Quartet and others, using this synth. You can listen to these on the
site. Sounds pretty amazing. One thing that such a PITA about sampled
instruments is the amount of tweaking necessary to *humanize* it.

ly dig he when he starts jamming out to their music. He whines,
barks and woofs. If you touch his tail he lowers his ears and growls at
you. If you press his nose he plays up to 720 musical phrases, and he barks
along with some of the tunes. He gains a personality as he listens to different
music. You can actually train him with your music.

It's cool how he picks up the rhythm of what ever style of music you play.
Sometimes he barks when the music stops. He does even more tricks, this
should keep you clients amused. You have to see him in action to really
appreciate it.

I got an iChick for Christmas. The iChick is a cute robotic woman
that listens to everything you say and says, "Wow!" and "That's cool!" and
wiggles her hips to your music in time. Your friends will totally dig when
she starts laughing at all their jokes too. She giggles,
smiles and dances for you. If you touch her butt she lowers her eyelids and
purrs at
you. If you press her nose she says up to 720 complimentary phrases, and
she dances
along with you favorite CDs. She gains a personality as she watches
football with you.
You can actually train her to understand what an onside kick is.
