Clocking issues exhibit some mighty strange symptoms when two computers are
interfaced digitally. One thing I found after trying 6534785465 different
scenarios was to clock all of my MECs from the master WC, then run 9 pin
sync cables from the MEC ADAT modules to the sync ports on the RME
cards..........and *never* to hook up a WC cable to the RME cards when they
are synced to Paris ADAT. This seems to be the most stable solution. The
downside of it is that everything is dependint on Paris being booted because
if the clock is being regenerated by the Paris ADAT modules, then even to
run Wavelab on the native DAW, I have to have the Paris DAW up and running.
I can just turn on a MEC and it will generate ADAT sync, but it's always 48k
unless the Paris app is also launched. Not a problem at all as long as I'm
sticking with 44.1-48k sample rates. If I want to record at 96k, I just
distribute my Mytek clock to the RME cards, terminating the BNC outs on each
RME card or I can use the RME clock and just daisy chain the RME cards,
terminating the BNC output on the last card. How often do I use 88.1 or
96k???.....well........just about never, but if I'm going to advertize that
I have this capability, I need to be able to pull it off once in a blue
moon. I require my clients to provide their own 250G drive (formatted) if
they want to record Hi Rez. This usually makes them reconsider.

OK DJ, I have my RME card in my cubase comp synced to the adat 9 pin sync
from the Paris mec, and I ALSO have word clock running to it from the GenX,
as well as the GENX clocking 2 Paris Mecs and a 442 that I got from some
guy ;-)
I have had zero problems with this so far. I think I'm doing that because
of an old post by BT that basically said the clock passed from the adat cards
wasn't that good. But I may be remembring it wrong. Anyway, I've had it set
up that way since I got the word clock, with no problems. Weird.

Rod,
I remember that post by Brian T. and that's precisely the reason I was doing
the same thing. I had constand freezes/lockups until I disconnected the WC
cables from the RME cards and just used the sync from the MEC. I think I
know why this is happening though. I am using sync from three separate ADAT
modules in three separate MECs running to three RME cards. Each MEC is being
sync'ed to the same WC, but there is some latency in submixes between MECs.
I wonder if this causes sync problems when the RME cards are synced to both
MEC ADAT and WC. there are some variations I could try, but I really hear no
difference whether WC oir ADAT sync is used since the ADAT sync that Paris
is sending the RME cards is just sample accurate sync generated by the ADAT
modules relative to the WC.
