For $300, you might be able to get your hands on a DP Pro? I dunno what
they're going for these days, but that is, I think, the place where the algo
came from and was ported to paris. This gives you hardware if you like that
thought, but not multiplicity unfortunately.

I couldn't tell you which preset - I don't have a DP - but I believe I
remember some talk about that being the source of it... since it's such a
unique sound/effect, I'd think it's probably pretty obvious if I remember it
correctly. One thing that you'll want to be sure you do it plenty of
predelay so the effect can work it's magic.

Aaron recalls correctly. It was from the DP/PRO. The DP/2 and 4 used ancestors
of the ESP2 if I recall correctly. The algo was the limiter. If you get
the hardware DP/PRO you will have no-limit on any platform :-) Some lucky
dogs even have the SPDIF card for their DP/PRO, I think something like 15
were made.

John,

You make a very good point :-) Another thing to consider... I bet that
if Matt added up *all* his time on the VST paris eq it would approach a man
month or more. Outside of the paris community people just seemed to think
it was a 'weird' eq. It was a labor of love I'm sure :-)

i see all your points.

but consider this.

PSP and Voxengo are 2 of the very best VST plugin makers... for PC at
least. I know a guy who has switched from mac to pc and then back to mac...
he's a pro tools guy... without hesitation he concedes that the PSP
compressor (mixpressor) is the best software compressor... especially for
drums.

anyways.

these guys started SMALL. back when all you heard was WAVES WAVES WAVES
WAVES.

same with ohmboyz.

if its good... you don't need a huge marketing budget. Future Music and
other magazines will recognize it and give you free pub.

dudes... people will love this plug-in. build it and they will come.

start small... in 5 years you can quit all your other jobs. i promise.

:-)

I'd love to use it on a bunch more stuff, but that thing eats EDS
resources like nobody's business.

I suppose I could bounce a mix with nothing on the global, then import
those two tracks and bounce again whilst spanking noLimit....

Or buy some plugins and save EDS resources for a couple of instances
of noLimit...

F'rinstance, right now I've got one plate verb on aux 2, one room verb
on aux1, standard comp on track 1, nolimit on track 2, and I can't use
another noLimit.

Those of you who mix stuff with large track counts, how the hell do
you do it? Or do you use native efx for everything else?

Huh, I started small... I'm still small... I'm still working the other
jobs... Even picked up more on the side... I must be picking the wrong
things to do... ;-)

I keep promising myself that once I get done with the next project
(current project is an upgrade to vSigX, the Eventide patch editor), it
will be back to Paris stuff... In the meantime, everything about my
(eight card!) rig is working so well for me that I don't have a lot of
that I'm-so-upset-I'm-gonna-fix-this-thing feeling built up...

I know a lot of folks got more EDS cards, then logically divide the tracks
among submixes according to the plugins they want to use. For example, you
can run exactly four no-limits on a card. Put all the tracks you want to
run no-limit on card b submix, and card a submix is freed for other effects.

Bouncing is another alternative. Mute everything but the no-limit track
and bounce to disk.

FYI The master card always runs the global inserts.

FYI2 The room reverb is the biggest hog of all :-)

Cool. As soon as I get the MacBook Pro paid off, I'll pick up another
EDS card. Or two. And another 8i.

FWIW, if there's any one EDS effect I don't use, it's the room verb (at
least not on it's own.. following with other effect makes it usable, but
there goes more resources to polish a turd IMO) . Too dark and yet not
smooth to my ears. Not worth the hit to my resources for the way I work....

Have you tried any external boxes?

Don't have any. Well, I do have an Alesis Wedge, which I may
experiment with this week.

Or, I may just have to break down and hit ebay for an appropriate copy
of Waves, provided it's re-registerable....

Silverspike's Room Machine 844 does really nice rooms, and it's
free.

QuikQuak's RaySpace is also pretty interesting (although most
of the presets are kinda weird... if you demo it, build a
more normal, simpler room from scratch & you'll prolly like it
better than the presets), and it's on sale right now for 90
bucks. It's WAAAY less CPU-intensive than a convo, but sounds
just as good as SIR, for example.

The Wedge is a very cool reverb. You should be able to get some nice stuff
with it,.
