Well, it's all gone swimmingly. :o)

Thank you all, you're a generous bunch, who obviously love the group. I may
host the group, but it clearly belongs to everyone here, and now many of
you actually do own shares. ;o)

In Australian dollars we're up to about $560. After donations flew in in
the first 24 hours, we've slowed to a trickle in the second 24, but it's
all good, as there's money there to fund the UPS.

So next week I'll most likely be buying one of these:

http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_ sku=BR1500I

I notice it says $818 on there, but I can pick one up just under $600, so
we've already made it. I'm sure I can find that extra $20 in my pocket somewhere.
;o)

I'll leave the donations button up for a bit more, as a future option is
one of these:

http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_ sku=BR24BP

....which would give us over 3X the backup time, and I can pick one up for
around $270ish, so I think it's money well spent. It costs 50% the price
of the UPS, and gives 200%+ more backup time. I'm guessing with this we'll
get a good 3 hours out of the system, and outages that long are pretty rare
of course.

Thanks again to everybody who donated. Honestly I was surprised at the generousity.
I was really only hoping to get about half what we did, so to get a figure
like that, well it's just excellent. You all rock!

Cheers,
Kim.

It was my pleasure. This group has helped me out in more ways than I ever
imagined and without it my mornings (and the rest of the day for that
matter) would be a lot less enjoyable

no leftover beer money??? I thought part of this donation was to make sure
that Kim has the financial resources to spend adequate time in a pub so that
an outage can occur and the UPS can be properly tested.

That's the talk! ;o) Beer money Beer money Beer money!! ;oP ;o)

No you guys don't need to worry about that. I've made a vow to myself that
next pay I'm going to be more careful, and spend less money on funky hats
and sunnies and more money on beer. ;o)

I'm just happy that I wont need to spend all my beer money on a UPS. ;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

That's very generous of you Tom, but as I told Mike, I don't think there's
any need for double dipping. We've certainly reached the "desperately needed"
total, and in under 48 hours, which is excellent. I suspect a few more donations
may trickle in over the next week or so, which should mean we get the extra
battery supply as well, but either way, the main UPS will keep things running
strong through 90% of outages.

In any case, the new one, with or without additional battery, will be far
better than the old one, and the old one seemed fine until I moved house.

Anyhow, it's Sunday 4:40pm here, and I've been cooped up in the house all
day. Must be time to go to the pub. ;o) Or do my supermarket shopping at
least... ...I need to see some real people. I mean you "digital people"
are great and all, but sometimes you need to actually interact with real
life humans. ;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

Kim,
It's 3:33 AM here in Boston. It's almost like having a pint
together... I'm about done. Enjoy your evening.
Tom

That's very generous of you Tom, but as I told Mike, I don't think =
there's
any need for double dipping. We've certainly reached the "desperately =
needed"
total, and in under 48 hours, which is excellent. I suspect a few more =
donations
may trickle in over the next week or so, which should mean we get the =
extra
battery supply as well, but either way, the main UPS will keep things =
running
strong through 90% of outages.

In any case, the new one, with or without additional battery, will be =
far
better than the old one, and the old one seemed fine until I moved =
house.

Anyhow, it's Sunday 4:40pm here, and I've been cooped up in the house =
all
day. Must be time to go to the pub. ;o) Or do my supermarket shopping =
at
least... ...I need to see some real people. I mean you "digital =
people"
are great and all, but sometimes you need to actually interact with =
real
life humans. ;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

No, you don't have to send money to anybody else...

....but you have to send the URL for donations to 9 other friends, and they
all have to send me money, and then send it on to nine of their frie...

....actually forget it. I've got a good tip for race 4 at Bendigo tomorrow.
I'll just bet all the money donated so far on that, and I should be right.
;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

The donations button is on the newsgroup website:

http://news.parisnewsgroup.com

We've pretty much made it to the cost of a UPS. Additional funds will hopefully
go towards an additional battery pack for it if we get enough.

Just donate whatever you feel comfortable with. I don't want to go telling
people how much or anything. There's no obligation to donate at all if you
don't wish. I've been stoked with the response. Any amount is appreciated
though.

Cheers,
Kim.

does PayPal have a field in their payment window for designating beer
donations?

Hehe, no, but I could actually make that an option on the site of a second
button. ;o) When you create the html code for the page it has a couple of
fields. At the moment, one field I have set to Paris Newsgroup, and the other,
which is "item" is set to "Maintenance". When I get the email advising of
the payment it tells me what it's for. I could create a second button which
has Paris Newsgroup, and item of "beer", and I'd get an email telling me
that the payment was for beer. ;o)

I've always liked you Deej... ;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

Well, I no longer partake of *the beverage*, but I'll be glad to buy you a
pint upon occasion, mate.

Well that would be most kind of you. :o)

Indeed that's a very hard offer to pass up. ;o) I might just put a beer button
up there. I mean if people want to buy their friendly newsgroup host the
odd pint who am I to stop them? ;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

Hey Kim, "the shaggy dog has leather ears". If I'm being to obscure, that's
code for "the deed is done"...which is code for...well you know what I mean.

Again, thanks for all of your assistance with "housing" the Newsgroup!!!!
