True story: I went to our Local Apple store to get a look at Logic Studio..
They had 1 box left, and the day was far from over.!!

They had already sold out Back 2 back units of their new iTouch devices!!
And the Christmas rush has not happend...Yikes!!

Lastly, the store (Friday afternoon) was flooded with customers buying all
kinds of products. Macbooks, i-pods, itouches, iphones.. Yikes..!!It was
bananas...

Just to add a bit of rational sanity.

http://www.247wallst.com/2007/09/apple-keeping-m.html

Apple's overall share of _new computer_ sales has been below five percent
for eons, and it's still hovering around 3%. They've become a very successful
portable music player company, and may yet become a successful phone company
(though there's a long way to go on that front), but busy Apple stores or
not they're still a niche player in the computer market.

Naw ..Not yet. I have to play with with it first. I never buy on impulse.
Although, I've been reading some really good things about Logic 8. Especially
on the Mac Pro.

I'll have it around Namm 08..

That's just insane!! The Guitar Centers, even onhteir best holliday sale days
are not like what I just witnessed at the Apple Store.

When the young sale cklerk whipered into the her managers ear "Where all
out of itouch devices" I asked my sale clerk, if she meant for the week,
he satated no..the day..

neighborhood.

James, you really do act like a spoilt child sometimes when it comes to
apple, do you have major shares or something?
Lighten up, it's just a computer, (overpriced, most of the time), and an
operating system, (that I happen to like a lot BTW).
Chill...............

I find it kind of funny that Apple wont sell retail in the US
In Australia we can buy apple at most electronic retailers, although they
are rarely ever discounted, but i must say, I saw a 17 inch imac in a store
for $1380 AUS, Normally $1880, but it was the just superceded one, (plastic
case).

Deej, the fruit comment is just plain lame. When it comes to audio, apple
is serious and they are moving in the right direction. I think you know
that.

Who is growing? Who is making money? Who's stock has been going up, and
been staying up for a while now? Apple!

Apple is smart to stay out of Wal-mart. They almost put Vlasic out of business.

Apple users are so predictable. They act like a retarded cult. If you don't
join the cult you are not cool or hip or you MUST be converted. Apple users
need to get a life. Hey, the iPOD is a great device but I still didn't buy
one because by the time I get portable music in my car and my wifes it's
gonna be around $600 plus the other accessories I'd like it to have and I'm
at a grand so it's just not worth it to me. Eventually I'll probably just
go with a new radio that takes a USB stick.

I just gave an iMac away this week cuz it is so slow it wasn't worth using
for me. Some kid will love it though.

Apple users need to get another hobby and learn that this is just a computer
and not a religion. This means you James.

It must be nice to have all that money to blow on Apple's overpriced stuff.

Martin,
The operating system is the "soul" of the computer,,if I could run
OSX on a PC I would in a heart beat. In fact I wish Apple would drop there
prices on computers and offer a version of OSX that will run legally on
any PC. Of course that version would be 3 times that of the one that runs
on Apple hardware. As Thad pointed out Apple holds 3% of the market and LaMont
sees
the Apple store packed! and you like the OS alot BTW This move would or
could have Apple dominating the Market.

Ya what do I know,I like Mac OSX.

But my how the conversation has changed...

How many times in the last 15 years have PC people predicted the
demise of Apple?

In my own experience, I have seen this many times.

And now I have but one thing to say...

NEENER NEENER NEENER!!!

heh

I still hate both Macs and PC's...

It's easy to generalize. I don't have an iPod either. I don't worship
any computer company. I see faults with all of them. But I do use a dual
G5 Mac in the studio. It has paid for itself many times over. (Deej has
probably bought 50 computers since I bought this Mac - heh).

I've also used at least half a dozen boxes with half a dozen different
operating systems over the years, still have a few of those laying
around, and OSX is much, much better than all of them except BeOS.

But despite your perception of "Apple users" I don't want to convert
you. Please buy whatever you want. I'd rather see market choices grow
than shrink.

I expect to move to Linux eventually. But in the mean time the Mac is a
workhorse and keeps getting better (this week with Logic 8). It
continues to earn its place in the studio.

Cheers,
-Jamie

They are, James, from 2% a few years ago to 3% today. Still a LOT more than
Debian.

OSX is based on BSD.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/unix/

There are similarities with Linux, you can even run X windows on OSX
which gives access to a variety of open source software that hasn't yet
been ported to the OSX GUI.

Anyhoo, use what you like. :^)

I got very close to running OSX on a PC as a test...it worked, but I had
problems loading external programs, so I gave up.
I'd also buy OSX in a heartbeat if it worked (legally) on a PC.

I would as well - just to have it on hand if for no other reason.
Truth is, it already works on a PC - just not legally on one without a TPM
chip.

I do have a feeling though, given the reports on the site that supplies the
underground
OSX for PC... that it might have problems running on a wide enough range of
hardware
for that to even be viable. Of course it would also kill Apple's hardware
margin, and force them
into the real muck and mire of tech support, or more likely, tech
no-support. So it's likely never
to happen. Some version of linux will more likely put a big dent, if not a
death nail in both OSX and Windows first.

That would be stolen BSD, not linux. I'm forwarding this on to both Richard
Stallman and Theo de Raadt ;-)
