Hi Parisites,

Wouldn't it be cool if some made a system like this.

128 tracks of I/O @48k 64 tracks @96k up to 2 cards can be used in the system at once.
Optical Madi based with word clock i/o
128 high quality comps and eq based on famous studio consoles available in hardware usable on Inputs or outputs or both.
At least 1 Hardware effect on each track so you can use 128 hardware effects at once. No latency ala Paris and PT.
Be able to use native effects in the hardwares mixer application at the same time as the hardware effects.
Be able to use the hardwares Mixer application as an editor, recorder, mixer even at the same time you use another audio program.
You will be able to do real time bounces of Cubase's or any other native applications outputs with the other application.

For under $3000

I beat some one at AES will be announcing this.

Chris

There's only one company I can think of that could deliver this...

Sounds like SSL. If they let the hardware mixer and effects be
controlled by ASIO apps, that would be a good setup. Going back and
forth between them might be a pain.

Not sure yet how that are handling that yet. If it is similar to the Sound scape system then they will only be addressable in the hardware mixer.
But sense the all the plug ins are the Duende plug ins I don't think it will be that big a deal
hardware mixing software has midi control so there will probably be some way to write automation.

Going back and

While tracking I don't think many people will be doing tons of automation.
If using the Cubase/Nuendo 3/4 you can use the effect as external effect buses so they can be used as plug ins and have all the PDC stuff handled.

From the look of it they will be shipping not to long after they announce it at AES.

Intelligent Devices! The system is called "Coming Soon" or "Any Time Now"
Maybe "St. Croix's Dream"

Ed, are you listening? Because we can't hear you.

Hi Aaron,

Nah not as unnecessarily complicated as Creamware. This is geared more to audio guys more than synth sound design folks.
Heck there aren't even any MIDI ports on the SSL product.

Creamware's big innovation was almost 10 years ago now. Not much has really changed or progressed sense then.
They seem to have used all their best ideas up all at once. Maybe Sonic core will help revive them but I have my doubts.

I actually would have guessed Yamaha save that Cubase/Nuendo integration.

Two concerns for me. First, SSL has yet to get into my sandbox because of
stability concerns. I hear LOTS of problems from people using their firewire
box. Second, maybe I'm getting old but I'm just sick of all of the hassles
dealing with multiple apps/machines. In the business software world where
I'm getting closer and closer to the developers good programmers are deeply
concerned with 'workflow.' Why? Because good workflow means more work gets
done. I spend huge amounts of time being sure my users have standard, familiar
ways to work with in house software, so if they learn one app they know the
rest.

So, for me, who has far less time than I'd like to record/mix/play, anything
I use MUST work INSIDE SX and Live pretty much seamlessly. I'm even thinking
of ditching my CW card, which I really flaming love, but those John Bowen
synths might be too much to give up.

Do you know how many channels at 96k the effects can handle? Besides
the instability, the 16 channel limit on their current DSP is lame.

I mostly mean using the SSL mixer in an "advanced" ADM mode so you could
use the Cubase or Samplitude mixer to control no-latency headphone
sends, etc. without having to control everything from the SSL mixer.
Basically make it transparent like an HD system or Paris.

So this will be under 3k, then you add one of their MADI breakout boxes?

32 channels @ 96k. This the same for all MADI devices.
The amount follows the sample rate so half the the number of DSP.
It technically will have 8 Duende PCI-e cards worth of DSP an don't have any latency being that they are only functioning in hardware.
The Duende plugin DSP devices add a bit of a buffer like the UAD and TC devices do to your sound card and programs delay compensation.

You also should be able to use the hardware buses with the effects on them as external effects in Cubase during a mix and or tracking.

Yes thats what they claim. When the SSL guy asked me how much I think something like this would for I said $8000 ha. Glad I was wrong.

Being Madi you can use can use the SSL Alpha Links, A bunch of the RME Madi stuff or a bunch of the digital mixing consoles.
You can mix and match the I/O quite a bit sense there are 2 64 channel Madi I/O ports to use.

That would have been my guess as well... It will be interesting to see
what this product pokes Yamaha into coming up with...

David.

Did anyone else notice that SSL apparently now owns Soundscape. Could
this be Soundscape re-worked and re-marketed?

Looking back on my Paris experience I'm not convinced the
PT/Paris/Sounscape model really is a better option than a full on
digitalmixer with DAW control and a DAW. The mixer brings so many more
tools to complete your studio.

What I'd really love to see is Yammy putting out a high quality
mixer/controller that totally integrates with Cubase/Nuendo and VST
plugs. OR SSL putting out a Soundscape system with a real mixer as the
front end of it. Same difference really. Oh yeah, and keep it
affordable! I think they're coming closer and closer.
