Hey all,

Any opinions on this chipset?:

NEC / Lucent PCI to Firewire IEEE1394.A controller chip

This would be used for a Presonus Firestudio.

Thanks,

David.

I've learned the hard way through 'What the heck is wrong with this?' that I
will only and exclusively buy TI firewire chipsets. NEC makes a decent USB,
but I haven't given the FW a shake because I know what works, and I stick to
it :)

Hi David,

NEC/Lucent chips tend to have the most compatibility issues.
Lucent is also known as Agere which I'm sure a few Mac people are familiar with having to deal with lately.

TI or VIA are gonna be your best chances at compatibility.

Also the Firestudio has it's own set of compatibility issues added to that.
They use the TC Dice 2 chip for their FW I/O and it has had problems with everything.

Using the TI FW chip will be the give your best chance at compatibility.
