The one that died on me this week was Hitatchi, and another Maxtor has
become corrupted this week. I shouldn't really say anything about Western Digital,
since I can't really remember.
Also, didn't Seagate buy maxtor or something like that now?
Maybe it's just luck of the draw sometimes..

Hitachi eh? I've got a 250G Hitachi SATA 7200 on one of my DAWs right now
for streaming VSTi samples. Seems to be working nicely.......which means
that tomorrow it will probably go belly up. I've got all my samples backed
up on a 400G WD.
Hope that one doesn't die too.

I was thinking that hitachi and IBM deathstars (deskstar) were somehow
related, and to avoid both... anyone remember the details?
BTW, Deej - did you get my message about the CD making it out last week for
DT's?

For some reason, some messages haven't been getting through here. I even
mailed you a manual for yourTLA preamp that I found the other day and that
was returned in the mail. If it wasn't for the fact that DT told me that he
got the CW v4.5, I'd be wondering if you were just a filament of my
exaggeration.

Yes, IBM sold their hard drive division to Hitachi, I think IBM retains a
vary small percentage of hitachi stock. Most of the IBM's were good. They
had a run that was bad though. The hitachi products have been marginal.

IBM squared off with consumers on one of the deathstar products. It was
only the 75GB drive that notoriously failed. A class action suit filed
about 3 years ago. But as things go when a class action suit files, people
don't pay much attention to the product name, but rather, to the product
maker. Who here can recollect the part number for the Georgia Pacific
siding that swelled and fell off a million houses? Not many.... maybe near
zero. Who here has heard of Georgia Pacific and their crappy siding? Most
if not all.
That said, I'd never buy an IBM drive until there was consensus here or at
some other trusted mass that these drives are solid.
I think Hitachi made the media for the IBM drives and a few of the internal
moving parts. Hitachi makes everything from straight pins to locomotives to
marine oil tankers.
