I was reading some tech info on the UAD websight last night and noticed this.
"Matrox G4xx graphics cards users will experience distortion in Audio Export/Processing
results if UAD plugin windows are open during processing.
Workaround: Close all UAD plugin interface windows before performing Audio
Export/Processing."

I've been using a Matrox G450 forever, and don't notice distortion, but there
are the usual clicks and occasional dropouts when using a UAD plug on a track
with edits. (yes, I'm using the drivers from windows, not the crap ones from
matarox) I render the track, solve the problem. I was wondering though if
it might be a good idea to switch to a different vid card to see if that
fixed the problem. If so what would you suggest?
I'm still running the Asus A7S333 mobo. I figure it wouldn't be too expensive
to get something else and experiment.

Hi Rod, I have a G450 and a UAD as well and have never really noticed any
distortion issues.

Do you ever get clicks or dropouts when the a UAD plug goes over an edit?
What mobo are you using? I don't get distortion, but I'm just wondering if
the things I DO experience could be traced to the G450.

Hi Rod,

I can get those clicks and inconsistant playback over some edits
with a UAD rev 4.7 too. It can be the case over other plugins too.

I'm using a Radeon 9600 dual head now.
It is fine in all other ways though. I think it's a Paris/UAD thing.=20
I had been using a Matrox G550 and before that a G400.
All exibit the same behavior give or take.

I never had this problem with the G450 cards. If you want to upgrade to a
different dual head card, I recommend the NVidi G$EForce 5500's. they worked
great for me with Paris on an ASUS A7V mobo (VIA chipset).

Thanks Tom. Based on you info, I'll probably not worry about experimenting.

FWIW, my rig no longer has the UAD in it but the GeForce cards have been
completely hassle free. If you'd like, let me know and next time I fire up
the rig I'll look to see which nVidia cards are in there. All my G450's died
years ago and I found out that they weren't nearly as snappy and troublefree
as the ones I have now. YMMV.

Hi Rod,
I think the G450 issues might have been specific to certain combination of hardware not just being a G450 card.

Yup, A7S333 same as you but with a 1900+. No expansion chassis on it (yet,
anyway), just straight into the PCI slots with EDS cards.

FWIW, I get clicks and dropouts with some combinations of plugins.
I don't own an IUD, but it seems that Waves plugins in conjunction
with PSP, (VintageWarmer... which I like a lot), or Amplitube
can cause the dropouts.
Usually flushing the memory (by way of saving and reboot), fixes it.
I have started rendering tracks with lots of edits to avoid this.
(minus plugins so I can tweak as I build the mix.)
I'm thinking that this problem is more related to screwy memory allocation
as one builds a complex mix, (and applies more plugins), and is probably
responsible
for the persistence of the occasional Crash-on-exit, and unhandled
exception, rather than the IUD plugins themselves.
Having said that, I reiterate that I don't own one, so WTF do I know?? I'm
just relating that I have had the exact same symptoms.
Oh, and I'm using a NF3 K8NS-ULTRA 939.

Kim. (Double-yuu, that is...)
