Paris Convertors / Word Clock Generator [message #85866] |

Hello all,
Two questions for you:
Because I never had the opportunity to A/B the Paris AD convertors against
more modern convertors like MOTU or RME I'm wondering how good they standing
the test in 2007. Does anybody know if I am missing something with old Paris
convertors, if so, what's the difference, beside of 96/24...
I remember one year ago, some people had success with an external word clock
generator on a cheap called "Hosa WDC-427 word clock generator". Does it
really improve the sound in tracking and mixing? What are the experiences
of the people who used or still using it?

how would you describe this improvment with your word clock?
how is a brown sound? I mean, does a RME has a more whitish sound then? More
clean? Transparent?
Let the verbs slamming festival begin!

Yes. There is a bit of a darker timbre to the Paris converters to my ears.

If I were going to build another Paris rig, It would have 3 x MECs running
Win XP. Each MEC would have a Paris A8it and A8oT and an ADAT card. I would
have at least one RME ADI-8 converter and maybe an older Mytek 8 channel
AD/DA interfacing with the ADAT modules.

Oh no, so DJ, using the ADAT card I can use an RME or Mytek with Paris?

All you will need to do is to use the external converter as the master clock
for Paris. You can distribute it using a Lucid CLK-6 or a GenX-6 if you're
running multiple MECs.
If you usually track at 24 but, just set your project to 24 bit and go for
it. The Paris ADAT module only passes 20 bit, but until you start getting
into *very* expensive converters, it's very unlikely that you will be
achieving even 20 "true" bits with the Paris, RME or Mytek converters
anyway.
