Should I resurrect the motorized fader C-16 replacement project?[ 23 votes ]
1. Yes, I want a motorized C-16 for use with only PARIS. 6 / 26%
2. Yes, I want a motorized c-16 for use with all my software including PARIS. 17 / 74%
3. No, I don't want a motorized fader control. 0 / 0%

When the PARIS newsgroup disappeared, I thought the PARIS community had finally given up, so I dropped my plans for anything more than one-off projects for myself.

Are there enough of us still around to make it worth while to resurrect these projects?

Voted 2....to work with Reaper would be great!

1 would be nice too and I know the C16 faders would definitely get more use Wink

Also might want to move this to the main forum as I know it gets most of the visits it seems.

Yes, if possible esp to run with other software, esp if MA gets ASIO working

So I guess that's two qualifications...

Hard to say how much it will cost. Depends greatly on how many I make. If it's just a couple, we're probably talking $500+ each. The faders I'm using (same as the ones in the Euphonix Artist Series) are $12 each, so that's a couple hundred bucks right there...

Wow, that's a lot less than I thought. I'd probably jump right in even if they only worked for Paris.

Assuming it will behave in hardware just as the automation in software does, with flipping between the submixes recalling automation for those mixes etc etc

Yeah, I'm in.

If you could get it to interface with Reaper I'd definitely be interested...hell I'd buy a couple more C16s just for that...oops this might start a run on C16s....never mind

No C16 required. This is a complete replacement...

Hey Doug - have you considered breaking this into two discrete projects - one a "motorized C16" and the other a smaller "line lump" that would sit between any C16 and the EDS card and have a MIDI out jack on it?

That second box would leave people with a C16 that was platform and driver independent. Most of the development would be stuff you'd be doing for the motorized fader box anyway; the comparative hardware costs for the line-lump would be peanuts, and the market comparatively larger (folks that might hesistate at buying a $500 motorized fader controller would buy a $75 "turn your C16 into a MIDI controller" box without a second thought).

I can't wait until you and Mike get talking. He's bootstrapped himself into being a formidable coder and he's an absolutely great guy. He's put some time into scrutinizing the C16's quasi-midi "language" since his plan is to have it show up to the OS as a MIDI controller once the Win7 64bit drivers are licked.

Inspiring stuff!

I thought that one other guy already did the MIDI out thing?

Sure, I think you're right on that. I suppose I should consider resurrecting the wireless module project too...

Sounds good. I had communicated with him a long time ago, but we lost touch without doing anything...

I like the 'green' aspects of converting the C-16 into a generic midi interface (preferably one that speaks the MCU protocol). Re-use and Re-cycle!

I've got 3 of these things......

Cheers

Ok, I'm intrigued. Would this thing be only faders? Or transport controls and such as well? How would it behave across submixes?

Pretty much a clone of the C-16 with all buttons, knobs and faders. (No up and down leds though.)

I'd be in, especially if it would work with other software.

My reply from the Adat thread...

Sorry to mix the threads. Yeah, it looks like my idea would be too much work. If the end cost would only be around $500.00, it makes sense to build new. I will mention that when Paris Pro 3.0 was released it was supposed to work with third party control surfaces. It is in the press releases, and as a dealer, I was told that they had it working with the CM MotorMix and a german control surface called the K2. It might be an easier way to go, to get Paris to work with an existing control surface. However, your idea to build a new C-16 is the best.

Third party control surfaces are mentioned in this release.

Wowsers, that's right, 2001! Sigh... What a shame that everything worked out the way it did. It could have been great!

At the same time, if it *had* worked out, we wouldn't have the best "vintage" DAW ever! Laughing

HECK YEAH!
ARE YOU KIDDING?
i'd be SOOOOO happy and grateful, if someone could come up with a motorized c-16! either one would do very nicely! (whether just for paris, or to include controlling various other software also)---
i still absolutely LOVE my paris system, and it still totally astonishes me, every time i use it. i don't care what other systems are out there nowadays, and it doesn't matter that software and hardware improvements and developements have come to a dead end on it, i still far prefer to work in the absolutely beautiful and gorgeous paris system! and having a motorized c-16 would just be TOTALLY awsome! anyone contemplating developing one, i very highly encourage you to do so!!!
