Paris on Windows7 is awesome. It is the most stable build of paris I have ever used. Fantastic.

And it looks SO cool! Check out the screen shot!

This is 100% legit. No photoshopping. I am sort of beta-testing these drivers for our favorite Paris programming genius.

My monitor is a HP w2338h 23" LCD. It LOOKS amazing running paris. But the best thing is the performance, not the looks. This thing is super fast, super responsive, and amazingly issue free. My current setup is the most rock solid and stable Paris rig I have ever run, including Win98.

For plugs- I am using pretty old stuff. I got paris and all my plugs around 2002-3. I literally haven't updated anything but my computer since then. So, I am using some Waves plugs, antares, and a few others as DX. For VST, I think just maybe drumagog 4 sometimes and Amplitube.

It is sickeningly fast though. I recorded a live jam- 8 tracks, for about 1.5 hours no issues and then watched the audio render at dizzying speed. 4 GB ram, and a dual core CPU at 2.6 ghz. Also, all the fader levels are crisp and the editors all roll sharply.

My Paris system is not too elaborate either. 3 cards, one mec, one ADAT, one 442 and a single C-16. I have an 8 channel digital pre- that runs 8 channels of ADAT into the mec for mixer 1, and then another rack of 8, four analog into the back of the mec and 4 into the 442.

Finally, I just noticed, I have photoshop running in my screen grab! No wonder there were skeptics. Wink

I used PS to do the print screen- no editing though. This is really the way of the future for Paris.

hi philip-
are you running a 32 or 64 bit machine? i assume it's a pc on which you're running paris? did you have to load any special drivers to get paris to work under window 7, and if yes, where can i get these drivers? any other special thing you might have had to do, to get things to work? do you have to run it in ''xp mode'', or does it run straight-up in win.7?

Hey,
I am running 32-bit Windows 7. On a PC, with an expansion chassis to hold the EDS cards. It is not running on the virtual machine. It is running in 7. In fact, it is 7 Professional, so it doesn't even have the virtual PC feature.

As for drivers, they are Mike's. He has created a monster with them. As I hinted at in the op, the install is very clean and VERY stable. I get maybe 25% of the crashes I used to get on xp and it runs sickeningly fast on my machine, being a dual core, with 4 GB of ram. As for crashes, let me be clear, they are probably 95% plugin related, and not an issue with the drivers.

As for the the install, I think it was straight forward. I basically just followed the same steps I would have followed on an XP machine. I think the only "trick" is that in order to make the actual Paris.exe run, you have to run it in compatibility mode.

Are you talking about Mike's old Xp driver for multicore systems (PARISMulticoreReleaseVersion1.02.zip) or did I miss something? (Actually it would make sense to make a sticky post with links to the latest drivers, plugins etc.).

I think mine is newer than the last general release, but I don't know. I am not familiar with all the different builds.

My guess is that you will just have to wait until Mike releases a build. I can't say when that will be, or even if I have the most recent release. All I know is that it works for me.

I would love to run my paris rig on WIN 7.
I'm running Cubase 6 on a win7 machine into paris on a xp machine via light pipe.
8 cards 4 mecs.

According to Mike the current XP driver works fine in Win7, but if you contact him he'll give you a more recent build with some ongoing tweaks included.

Hey I have been having a issue with little pops coming out of 2 channels like every 1 or 2 seconds. Sometimes a restart of the machine helps or I will try other things ie changing clock back to internal & back to ext. changing cards in global mixer, turning sub mixers on & off etc.
It is a bit of a pain & I'm not sure what causes it?
Any ideas? Thanks for your time!

Yeah running ADAT to/from with different lengths. At fist I thought I had conflicting clocks, but then I realized that in PARIS Internal was selected. In hindsight, this explanation is the only one left...

That's so weird that it affects lightpipe. I've heard that the speed of electricity in a circuit is a pretty conditional thing - but in optical cables, given the speed of light the time taken on the two respective legs must be functionally identical. But there it is - cleaning up my lightpipe cabling and standardizing the lengths made a big difference over here.

In the past, when I have had issues with "pops" and "clicks" in playback, it has been heat related. If you have central air conditioning, try putting your rack\PC holding the EDS cards over the vent and blast it with cold air. See if that solves the issue. If so, you can look into better ventilation, or other ways to reduce the heat.

I'm wondering where this stands now -- a year later. Is your Win 7 set-up still happy with Paris? Are you running this in a pro set-up on a daily basis? If so, the "secret" drivers need to become un-secret. I would be glad to pay Mike for a working release of Win 7 drivers -- 32 bit is fine, 64 can come when and if he gets it together...

I want to move into the new year with a re-vamped rig -- I would love to keep my 3-card Paris system at the heart of it, and this would seal the deal... Thanks, and thanks to all the dedicated brainiacs toiling on Paris developments... you guys truly rock.

Heya Chas - if you re-read the thread, there's no secret - the above example of PARIS on Win7/32 uses the existing XP drivers which are available from Mike's site (if you contact Mike directly after purchase I'm sure he'll send you the most current set with the most up-to-date tweaks).

Win7/64 drivers are in development and will have to be completed before PARIS will run on Win7/64, but your dream of Win7/32 looks like a "go" right now. You could install it on another drive or partition for safety's sake for easy reversion in case you aren't happy.

Thanks for the clarification, KG. I bought Mike's drivers a couple months back, so I guess I'll turn my attention now to spec's for a new PC for Win 7. Keeping Paris running, alongside modern apps, soft-synths, etc., would just about put me in the all-I'll-ever-want place...

Chas above, asked for an update.

My PARIS rig still rocks. It is lean and mean and has almost no problems. The crashes I used to have were plug-in related- so I stopped using those plugs and I am rock solid.

I do not run a "pro" studio. I record for my own pleasure and a semi-regular basis and have never been happier and less stressed by my DAW.

Could you post your full system specs and PC components please?

My last XP rig was solid for years, but when I replaced it I've suffered poor stability. The new system was with paris 3.0 previously on 2.2 (I don't use pluggins when recording)I love paris have used it for 15 years now but am pulling my hair out due to stability.

I tried using a Magma but couldn't get paris to run (error 1/1) XP sees the PCI bridge and loads scherzo for each card but paris won't run.

In desperation I bought a G5 (silly I now know I should have got a G4 os9) and haven't been able to get that to work either on magma chassis....

Any help really appreciated, I really want to stick with paris on PC or Mac, Thanks
