Get the model without a stuck caps lock key.

Clifford,

I'm running my three card PARIS very nicely on a dual 1GHz G4 Quicksilver.
There are some newer G4's that are a bit faster that will also still boot OS
9. PARIS doesn't get any benefit from the dual processors. Other apps you
may want to run most likely will though, so take that into consideration.
Basically, find the fastest G4 that will boot OS 9.2 and it should work with
PARIS. Stay away form the model Rick tried though. Rick can you elaborate on
which one that was again?

Tony

Rick had the last model G4 with the firewire 800, stay away from that one!!!!
Get a dual mirror door G4 with the single processor. it was a 1 or 1.25
GHz, I have the dual and it runs hot and it is more noise because of the
fan speeds for the dual processor. These model came standard with dual monitor
support. You can also get a faster processor for it. Paris will not use
the dual processor.

If you are not going to use a lot of VSTs and you only need a single monitor
you could pick up any G4 tower with an AGP video card. I bought a G4 400
AGP for $100.00 on ebay not too long ago. To get dual monitors for that
machine, you would have to get an ATI 8500 AGP video card, they are about
$90.00.

You can check out all specs at www.apple-history.com, look on the right side
of the page for all the models.

Good luck!

James

Oops. Forgot to type message.

I have the last of the 1.2 gHz dual processor G4's running Paris in OS 9.2.2.
Works fine. I have 4 EDS cards installed in a Magma 13 slot PCI expansion
chassis and 2 UAD-1 cards in the computer (for some reason they stopped working
in the Magma box). I frequently bounce between OS 9 and OS 10 to run Protools,
Digital Performer and Bias Peak, so it's good that I have a pretty fast dual
processor machine, I got mine about 2 years ago on eBay for about $1600
in perfect condition w/ tons of software installed.

No, get the model without the need for spyware detecting software, pop up
blocking software, anti virus software, ad-ware detecting software. Oh Yeah,
I forgot that's the way all Mac models are. No need for all that stuff on
a Mac! (Virus free since 1994!)

Get the model were stupid messages don't jump in the way while your trying
to get work done, with dumb messages like "it's time to stop and stretch"
or "A new device has been found", when adding a USB stick/HD, instead of
just mounting it and placing a short cut icon on your desk top, or an irritating
message that says "Stay current with automatic updates" every five minutes.
Oh yeah, that doesn't happen on a Mac.

Lets see, I own a performa 476, Performa 6400, PowerMac 7200, PowerMac 8100,
two PowerMac 9500s, StarMax 4000, Umax S900 dual, three Radius 81/110s, iBook,
PowerMac G4 AGP, PowerMac G4 dual dual mirror door. No stuck cap lock keys
here! All machines are useable and are still working, 12 years later! Hmmmmm.
