Anyone ever made PARIS' OMF *import* work? [message #104904] |

Just wondering - now we've ascertained that PARIS" OMF export does indeed work (once we understood it) - has anybody ever managed to coax PARIS to produce meaningful results from an "imported OMF"?
If so - do you remember which DAW the OMF was exported from?
The obvious next hypothesis I'll want to test is that the "import OMF" function in PARIS might be similarly usable - if we can figure out how to speak to it.
Upcoming versions of AATranslator aim to *write* OMFs. So if there were even so much as a single type of OMF that PARIS can read correctly, this would be important information to know.

Yup, no names, missing stuff etc - basically sucked - and that's reading its own OMFs
On the other hand, I didn't try very hard. And I didn't try with OMFs generated by "other" platforms. I suspect they used *something* to make OMFs to test on - and that it seemed to them like it was working. I'm thinking I should be exploring this more - I want to check the possibility that the import functionality might actually be "OK" (like the export turned out to be), and might be made to work functionally with OMFs specifically written for it.
That would normally be an utterly useless piece of trivia (not terribly practical, "change the platform you're exporting from" - if you were going that far, why not simply change the platform you were exporting to?), but if AATranslator is going into writing OMFs - and if we could find one existing DAW's flavor of OMF that PARIS could reliably pull info from - we'd be well on our way to accurate translations from a ton of formats to a finally-readable PARIS OMF via AATranslator.
It's already a complete no-brainer purchase for any studio that's ever had to transfer sessions out for a client. Tidy the session, hit "export OMF", open it in AATranslator and ask the client "what format do you want it output to?"... Paid for itself in saved time over track rendering the first time I used it with a client last week. The second client was gravy.
