Remember that scene in the first Star Wars where Han Yo-Yo is getting the
Millennium Falcon ready to take Whiny Luke and Slinky Leia of to see, well,
something important I forget now. Or maybe Slinky Leia wasn't there yet,
it was just the Whiny Luke and Whiny C3P0 and Perky Little R2 at that point.
Anyway, in a very slapstick moment that was sadly missing from the later
Star Wars movies, Harrison Ford as Yo-Yo is all talking up his ship up like
it's the most BALLING thing ever and it did the something or another run
while making parsec tea and all. So they're finally ready to go and fight
the Greatest Battle in History of the Galaxy but first they have to hire
Yo-Yo to taxi them there 'cause they don't have any money and they live on
this shitstorm little backwater planet that's like the Kearney, Nebraska
of the galaxy and the best they can find to get them to the Greatest Battle
in the History of the Galaxy is this shady drug/gun/whatever runner they
met in a bar. So Yo-Yo jumps in the pilot seat and flips a bunch of switches
and fires up his shitty jalopy of a Millennium Falcon and it makes all of
these cool noises and beeps and the engines start to whine and the lights
are all flashing and then it goes BBBBBBRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMPPP
and all the lights turn off? Well, that's kind of how I feel getting my studio
up and running again, expect of course that I don't have any androids in
my house or a Wookie either, which is probably good because I have a cat
and if he could beat me at chess like a Wookie could well, screw me I'd have
to give him tuna fish EVERY DAY.

All of which is to say that I was getting out my bass to start working on
a couple tracks on my fancy new Millennium Falcon DAW and . . . my SansAMP
Bass DI has gone to the great DI hereafter where I'm sure at this moment
it's covorting with it's bass DI family in eternal bottom crunching bliss.
Now then, I'm a dub/reggae/electronica guy so I'm EXTREMELY picky about bass
sounds, and most of the time I like to actually play them. I can program
a bass line but bass needs to be one of the really organic sounds in the
kind of music I make which can sound very non-organic at times. Here's what
I liked about the SansAMP.

- it was happy to work with any kind of bass. It would boost the lowest output
Danelectro to mixer burning levels, but happily deal with a fancy new active
bass as well.

- it didn't have much color on its own, but it also got everything out of
the bass. That is, it didn't sound 'cool' like an Ampeg mic'ed up, but it
would dutifully pass all of the frequencies coming out of the bass, at very
least, and let me work with them later in the mixer with EQ and compression
and so on.

- but even so the EQ could be useful in many situations.

- it had multiple outputs, XLRs, quarter inch, pass through, etc.

Now then, I'm more than happy to just get another SansAMP but do you PARIS
loving analog mixing golden ears types have suggestions for a better box
to be used to plug a bass directly into a mixer or recording device?

Thanks,

TCB
