Has anyone tried one of these? I'm about to drop a lot more money on a moving
fader control box. A lot more.

I've heard good and bad. They are vary cheaply made. They are Ok for the
bed room guitar guy, but not for professional studio work.

Thad, it's a new product, but I'd be looking at the new Alesis MasterControl,
Or maybe a Tascam.

Hi Thad,
Do you need one that is programmable?
If not then the Mackie is the one everyone copies and it still has the
best integration with the DAW stuff.

The only other one I've seen that is well made and programmable is the
Mixed Logic unit but it is a huge monster.

The controllers that are built into the audio interfaces and digital
mixers do not go deep enough for me to think they are worth while.
And the vast majority of the other control surface units all use the
Mackie Control format so why not just get the real thing? Also having no
drivers to install being able to run longer cable runs with MIDI is also
good.

Unless I can address every part a channel I might as well use a mouse.
The mackie control comes closest to this outside of the IK thing that
runs with Nuendo. But that might be too much money for your poor Yankee ass.

I was planning on buying the Frontier Designs Alfatrack, until I saw the Alesis
MasterControl. The Alesis serves multi purposes, including 16ch. Adat interface.
I may also buy a Alfatrack. It's only $200.00 street, and it's small.

Not poor, cheap.

But thanks for the advice, I was planning on a Mackie anyway, because it's
supported natively in Live as well as SX.

Hi Thad,
Well with the new Pro version coming out you should probably ask around
at stores for deals that might have over stock of the old version. Or
ebay for them.
