I feel like there are a few misconceptions being posted about apples market
share:

1. Apples Q2 2007 US Market share for NOTEBOOKS was 17.6 percent, placing
them third behind dell and HP.

2. Apples overall market share of the US market as of Q2 2007 was/is %5.9.
To put this in perspective, dell, the market share leader is @ 16%. I believe
this puts apple as the overall number 5 PC maker in the US

3. Apple owns the personal audio player space, they have devestated all potential
rivals.

4. Apple dominates the online retail music market in real numbers, not to
mention *mindshare*

5. Apple moved 1,000,000 iPhones domestically since launch, a feat that took
the iPod 2 years to accomplish.

6. Margins on all apple consumer goods, computers and accessories are insanely
high. Analysts estimate that the typical gross margin the typical ipod are
approximately 40%. Dells box margin hovers between 3-5% on the box.

7. Apple derives revenue from the hardware and software. Think about it,
there's no 800 lb gorilla waiting in the wings to collect OS licensing that
is potentially more expensive than the computer itself. They have an aggressive
upgrade schedule, with features people actually want and are willing to pay
for.
