I was planning to add real drums to this track, but the tracks I did
with the Groove Agent Demo sound pretty darn good to me. What do you
think? Does it work?

I think real drums would be better -- but they work. Mostly it's the
reverb on the HH and kit that bugs me a bit. Maybe try them drier or
with different reverb/fx?

Well, the programmed drums are clearly lacking in dynamics, tonal
variations, and other expressive elements a real drummer would add. Also,
the drums seem to be functioning as a glorified metronome rather than really
contributing creatively to the arrangement, which could also be remedied
with a human-powered drumset.

But if it's just a demo . . . well I wouldn't worry about it.

Just my hypercritical opinion based on my personal prejudice in favor of
drummers. (drummers have fast hands)

It just seem like the wrong kind of kit (or tones) for that
tune... you need something more subtle, whether it's progammed
or not.

I like it . The drums work for me. You may want add live cymbals or play cymbal
samples live...Nice work..

As a drummer, I'd say it sounds too programed. The HH is too loud and has
no dynamics.

And yes, I have fast hands; )

I think they sound like shit. The snare sucks, the hihat sucks, the
kick really sucks. Other than than it rocks. Sorry I've got a TD20 and
while those even are not real drums the sound of this drum thingy is
terrible.

Love ya,
John

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. The kit can be replaced of course.
This one is very, very "old school" obviously, but the tune is too, so I
thought it kind of fit. I was more concerned about the feel.

I will probably bow to majority opinion in this case and replace them.

Sarah, that's why you're not a Pointer Sister.

Drums are definitely holding this mix back.
Hat, and cymbals the most.
Snare rolls bother me.
Drums to upfront altogether for my taste.
Love the guitar..needs to be more upfront for my taste.
Is the bass guitar a VSTi?
Real drums will totally bring this mix alive IMO.

Yeah, bass is fake too. I could play the bass, but it's such a labor for
me. I'm lazy.

Thanks for the input.

Hey Bill,

Are you the guitar player? You have a few Robben Ford CDs in the car CD changer
don't you? Very nice playing, has that very vocal, vowel sounding tone that
good distorted blues/jazz/rock guitar sounds do.

I've used Groove Agent on occasion but think it's almost always best replaced
by a real drummer even if he's only using triggers for the cymbals. You'll
get much more dynamics even if the drummer is trying to play like a robot.

Still, very nice work. I was close to having those kind of chops at one point
in my life but I sure as hell don't anymore.

Thanks, Thad, it's me. I does love me some Robben Ford. ;-) He's about
the best blues player out there for my money. Prolly 'cause he's a lot
more than a blues player.

I don't usually write stuff like that, but I just dug the first 3
changes and had to write something after them. Usually I play Latin and
jazz, although I do have a long, sordid rock and R & B past life too.

I think I did get a pretty nice tone. You're going to laugh - it's a
custom Strat type w/ EMGs into either a Pod (mark 1) or a Vox Tonelab.
With a UAD1 Pultec and 1176. That's about as digitalectric as you can
get, but dang it sounds warm enough doesn't it?

When do I get to hear some of your new album, or old albums?

Bill
