Hello All,
It has been a while since I have posted, hope everyone is doing well.
I am having an issue with Paris all of a sudden. When I try to launch it
goes through the opening process and then when I should see the main screen,
it disappears completely. If I try to launch again, it shuts the computer
down.
I have been running Paris for the past two years without much trouble on
this computer, but today I loaded some new plugs and this happened. (HP dualcore
running XP sp2)
I uninstalled the new plugs and also re-installed Paris, but neither fixed
the problem. I tried to run Paris after running a restore point, but that
didn't work.
I am wondering if I need to uninstall Paris and delete the EMU completely
before reinstalling Paris?
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Thanks,
Mike

So Mike, you haven't changed any hardware in this box, only software,
correct? I would backup my 3 Paris config files, then try uninstalling and
removing Paris completely and then re-install. How many EDS cards?
Keep us posted.
Good luck

Correct, I just changed some plugins (waves) which must have disrupted things.
I have 2 EDS cards.
After I reinstall Paris, it will work once, then it gives me errors after
that.
Should I reinstall the subsystem as well?

Yes. Might be a good a idea to reinstall all...the scherzo, paris, then
the subsystem. THe other thing is try starting without a default
project in the Paris directory adn see if the problem persists.

It is still not working, however I noticed that it only loads until it gets
to loading the DirectX effects, that is when it crashes.
Help.

You could head over to analogX.com website and download his free DXplgin
inspector prog he's got there, then run that and see all plugs that are
still installed and start disabling them until you hit the bad one. It
really looks like a DX plug issue at this point my friend. Is VST plug
disabled in your Paris Config file?
Good luck

In you paris.cfg file add
DisableDirectx=1
See if not load the dx plugs will allow you in. Did you also
delete/rename the default project?

No, it isn't disabled. Should it be?
I have DXMan and checked it for missing plugs.
I use a vst wrapper and "unwrapped" all of those plugins, but it didn't make
a difference.
Also, I uninstalled all of my Waves plugs, but that didn't help either.
Thanks for your help.

If your not using any VSTs, you could disable it, probably not related to
your problem thow but worth a shot. Also, try what Jeff said and disable
DXplugs in your config file, good idea.

I disbled the directx like you said and Paris gave me an error saying that
it couldn't find the stockfx.dll file, so I copied it from the windows/sysem32/ensoniq
to the EMU paris Pro and now I get an "unhandled exception c00000005". I
know that I have seen this error before, but I can't remember how I fixed
it. Any Ideas?

Disabling the directx fixed the problem, I guess I will have to go through
the plugs one at a time to find the culprit.
Thanks so much for your help!

I started going through my DX plugs, but all the plugs in there I have been
using for years. I "unwrapped" the VSTs and deleted some DX's. Why would
they cause a problem now?
Is it possible that a DX plug for my video apps are causing an issue even
though they are not audio processors?

Mike,
I think a while back Dimitrios talked about improved stability by
wrapping all dx plugs in a vst wrapper and leaving the DisableDirectx
parameter on =1)
As to why they suddenly stop working, there's a whole long schpeel I
give people about magnetic media and degradation of systems over time.
Used always clean off and reinstall my whole system once a year for good
measure.

Do you have any ideas for configuration settings? I can't remember where I
had them set before the crash.
I have it working now, I uninstalled all of my Video editing apps and tons
of plugins that I don't really use. There is still something in there that
is not playing nice with others but I can consistantly get it back up and
running after a reboot.

FWIW, I found that this freeware utility was better than
Analog-X's offering, in that you can disable/re-enable DX plugs
at will, for troubleshooting purposes.
Best to reboot before launching Paris.
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/vb-audio/us/mm/plugman/vb_plugma n.htm
Best of luck.
