9 years on PARIS. What, a couple of months on SX? Imagine nine years with
the same girl. Then you make a break, and three months into your next relationship
you're wondering if it was the right call. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't,
but you can't even know by now.
Give it time, there's lots of stuff out there. A few of the really 'whoa'
f/x I've found (reverbs in particular) have been with the Creamware card.
So you can think of that as and option as well. If after a year or so you're
still pining for your ex, Morgan will set you back up.

..... I have 2 of his ex's here, they aren't leaving (bought the 2 creamware
cards) and a third on it's way for a tryout (mobo/cpu), heh. Til death (or
connection to a Behringer product) do us.....
Seriously, I'm adoring the Creamware stuff if I can just get enough time off
work to wrap my head around it.

And if you had been in a wheelchair for a number of years, then
all of sudden be able to walk again, you'd probably miss that
chair for certain things, too (like in your case, being able to
harness the dogs up to it & have your own version of the
Ititarod sled race), but in the end isn't it nicer to be able
to just take off running whenever you want to?

The reverbs were the first thing I noiced when I got my Pulsar cards. In
fact, right after I got mine, I think I posted something here about how I
thought that the Pulsar II card would be worth the price just for the
reverbs. I's still liking the RME cards quite a bit though. The new drivers
are very good.
BTW....sorta' OT but I'm gonna be recording some lap steel OD's tomorrow
night using my Lexicon 284 and the stereo cab with a '57 on one cone and an
sE ribbon on the other. The cab will be isolated in my Eckel Industries
audiologist booth (like an anechoc chamber). The direct outs of the amp will
probably be used simultaneously as well and I'll likely split the guiitar
output to a Radial Tonebone and send one of the leads to my POD for a
different tone.
Should be interesting.

That does sound like some interesting geetar tracking. Since I've just gone
back (after many, many years as a Top Hat monogamist I"m now a Savage polygamist)
to a two amp setup I'm not sure how I'm going to record Monkie guitars. When
I was a one amp guy I was going to go with the pure Steve Albini approach,
one bright mic and one dark mic, both roughly a foot off the cab, pointed
right at the cone. Now do close mic each cab with a bright/dark mic? Move
the two mics I was planning on using back a few inches? Pick one amp per
overdub but use the pair live? More testing to do.
Here's an odd one. I think drummer should have to justify, in writing, every
time they hit a tom, because they hit them a lot less. This assumes, of course,
the drummers can write, so I might be starting from false assumptions, but
I just think toms get in the way and that fills should be Charlie Watts/Al
Jackson kick/snare/cymbal things. However, our drummer uses toms quite a
bit so we were doing some testing on mics. We tried four mics, a 57, a Rode
NT5, an AKG 412, and a Behringer pencil condenser that I think cost less
than $150 for the pair. I wouldn't be telling this story if the Behringer
didn't win. It has a tighter pattern so there's less extraneous trash (the
NT5 had by far the most trash) and the tom sounded just fine through it.
So Behringer it is, and that frees up the pair of NT5s to do other jobs.

Thadster, if you're still in "gear acquisition mode",
try a B.L.U.E. Ball and/or an Audix i5 fer yer guitar amp, and
some Audix D3's or 4's for your toms.

You really should try it. You will gain at least 3.5Khz on the top
end, -6db lower noise levels and an extra 14db
of dynamic range

Good; that, plus my no-patchbay approach should put me well into
high-end frequency ranges that are on the verge of violating FCC
regulations due to interfering with microwave transmitters;
noise levels so low that passing extraterrestrials avoid
getting within 100 light years of my convertors because they
think it's a black hole, and dynamic ranges that will cause
mile-long icebergs to calve off the coast of Antarctica.
I should be relatively happy with that kind of performance for
awhile.
