Does anyone intentionally tune the drums to the specific key of the song?
How does one go abuot doing this? Is there any literature on this technique?

yes but only a couple of times where it made sense...with a
tuner...don't know...

Drums and percussion that are tuned in a manner that is harmonically related
to the root of the song can help with the “polished factor”. Generally, I
will listen for clashes and only change pitches if I notice a problem, but
if I am doing drum replacement I will give pitch some consideration.
