I played a show with three of them plus a sub-woofer on each of two
towers and two subs for the third tower. That night there were multiple
acts, from solo acoustic to loud prog rock bands, with quick changes.
Overall they worked and sounded better than I expected and the act
changes were fairly quick.
No mixer out front. The owner of two of the towers was on hand to adjust
things as needed on the little control modules.
There wasn't time to do much with the acoustic drums so I don't really
know how good or bad the PAS can be for that. I think the drums were
mostly un-amplified that night. The bass guitar and low keyboards
sounded good so there was some bass response in the system.
There were a few initial feedback problems due to volume. But once those
were tamed it all worked OK and I could hear the vocals and instruments
with no other monitors.
Except that I did bring a little powered Galaxy monitor just for my
guitar/violin as insurance, and I had it on a mic stand next to me.
Having never played through the PAS before I wanted to be sure I would
be able to hear my instruments. Probably won't bother with the Galaxy
next time, if we use that system again.
Hearing other acts, the sound was OK out front. On the side I could hear
more of the nearest PAS than the other two, pretty much like I would
expect.
Based on that one experience I'd say they're worth trying to see how
they work for you.

I am a jazz trumpet player and I bought and have one and I absolutly LOVE
it! I have played live in many, situations, through all kinds of systems,
and have NEVER sounded so natural and good as with this system. It also
can integrate into a standard system, because I did a concert of my music
with it mixed in with a traditional system of EV speakers and it worked great.
I have also used it for some of my friends for vocal stuff, and they all
just were very surprised and pleased with the results. If you are in a heavy
rock band, it may not be for you, but if you are looking for the most natural
sound you can get, try one. I agree that Bose hi fi systems are not desireable,
but this is entirely different. These people did their homework. Now I
am sure there are people who have had problems with them, and NOTHING is
right for EVERYONE, but I love mine. It was one of the best investments
I ever made in regards to audio, including my precious Paris! When I first
played through it in the store, with my trumpet, I heard my trumpet louder,
but I had to ask if it was even on. It reproduced my horn so clearly, I
just wasn't sure. I have used it in hlarge halls, and was amazed at how
the sound filled every section of the hall evenely and with the same volume.
I would go to a local Guitar Center store if one is near you, to try them
in person. They also have a good return policy if they don't work for you.
