OT: Vocal Jazz record through first Grammy hurdle [message #92438]

Apologies for the blatant promotion...

I recorded/mixed/co-produced "The Sky Is Blue and Sometimes Cries" for
my family's small label, Soona Songs. I think it's something special --
and so is Lisa Markley!

The label has submitted it for a Grammy (Best Jazz Vocal Album), and
it's made it through the first cut of nominees. We have our fingers

Thanks DC. Actually it was done with a Jim Williams-modified Alesis
HD24XR into Samplitude. Mixed in Samplitude.

was in TX) being used for one of my band's records...

It's a really nice sounding piano to start with (48" tall). I tried a
lot of setups but ended up with modified m/s over Paul's right shoulder
facing the front of the piano (Microtech Gefell UMT70s in omni for the
mid, and another UMT70s in figure 8 for the side) plus a Soundelux U195
in the back for more lows. At first the sound was too wet, so we moved
the piano against the absorptive wall. Hardy M-1 for preamps.
