I've been reading about the Kentsfield Intel chips. Not that I'm conspiratorial
or anything, but with AMD finally getting a quad core part out the door soon
is this Intel trying to get a little marketing buzz before the performance
race tightens? Or will the Intel quads continue to vastly outperform the
other options?

Hi,
Yes
Just built one for a video mag review. Wasn't able to any audio tests on
it but its SiSoft Sandra and Cine bench score were off the charts.
Hopefully getting another pair soon to do audio testing on.

There aren't any motherboards on the AMD side that will directly support
their Quad -Cores officially so haven't been able to test them.

Sense there have been no major architecture changes on the AMD front I
don't think we will see a major performance jump. AMD doesn't have any
major changes coming for at least a year.

Excellent, Chris, thanks a lot. After not building anything new for 2-3 years
I have two projects I want to get done relatively soon. A new fileserver
and a new audio box. The fileserver obviously doesn't matter much save linux/BSD
support for components, but the audio machine I want to have some legs. And
maybe the ability to put a Pulsar in it ;-)
