Good Wrapper for Paris besides FxPansion 3.3 and non working plugins List? [message #102695] Mon, 02 March 2009 10:53 Go to next message

Hi Everyone,

I am having some Paris crashes and Windows says it's
FxPansion. It never tells me it's a particular plug in.
I'm wondering if there is anyone using another wrapper
beside the maybe not multicore compliant FxPansion 3.3?

I will also gather my list of plugins and post them here.
If anyone knows of any of them being suspect I'll remove them.
Mike A. suggested removing expired demos from UAD.

Thanks for your input!

Tom

I'm going to try FFX-4 as Dimitrios suggested.

If you're going to that effort anyway, I'd suggest writing up the "working/non-working plugin" section of the Wiki - seeing as we're just about to launch a "best Wiki contribution" competition, with Mike Audet plugins as the prize Very Happy

Kerry,

I used it today regarding an error I found. Thanks for that!
I haven't totally got the Wiki interface/concept down in my brain.
I'm not sure exactly how to log in or even set up an account.
I will submit the info once it's compiled though. I have all of
Mike's plugs anyway... That is an awesome prize though!

FFX-4 seems to work like a charm out of the box and it's
freeware as Dimitrios stated. The preset aspect makes it
another huge time saver when setting up common effects
in a group. Vocal, guitar, drums all with 3 effects/their preset
and Faderworks with their latencies already compensated for!
THAT IS AUTO DELAY COMPENSATION WITHIN PARIS.
Sorry for yelling but it's really cool stuff.

My workflow is going to be quicker than ever now. I think I'll
spring for the 16 slot FFX-16 to allow all effects choices to be
wide open.

Still working on the list of plugs... 220+

Glad you found it useful!

Setting up a Wiki account is very straightahead - just go to http://www.kerrygalloway.com/WikiPARIS/wikka.php?wakka=UserS ettings and enter your email address and choose a password, and voila - after the obligatory confirmation email, you're registered.

After that, editing the Wiki is a breeze - you literally just doubleclick on any page you're reading, and the editor opens up.

There's a powerful and very easy trick called CamelCase that you can use to make creating new pages a breeze. To use it, you just type any word with *capitalization inside it* - like BooBoo or VstPluginsWorking. When you save that page, your "CamelCase" word (I guess because it's got "humps" like a camel) gets a dashed underline beneath it (you can see it on the Wiki's index page already, underneath the unfinished "Sonics" or "Sessions: Mastering" entries in the index. If you now click on that word, the Wiki *automatically* creates a brand new page and takes you to it, where you can paste or type info. Don't worry if the words look a bit goofy, I'd tidy it up afterwards.

The process (after you registered) would be very simple.

1) Go to the Wiki's front page.
2) Double click the page and the editor opens
3) Scroll down to the index section at the bottom
4) stick the cursor in a good spot - say below "PARIS Setup And Configuration".
5) Type "VstPluginsWorking" (just like that).
6) Preview if you aren't sure you got it right. When it looks right, save the page.

Now you have something that looks like this:

PARIS Setup and Configuration
VstPluginsWorking [this will now have a faint dashed underline beneath it]
Main Windows

Now comes the magic - click the VstPluginsWorking text and the Wiki creates and saves a new page for you - you just made your very own Wiki entry.

It's ridiculously cool. They did a great job on this software.

Hi,
DX is a no no for Paris.
If you struggle to use plugins that are only DX like Autotune for example
then use FFX-4 as a VST ONLY !
Means that you have to use the vst version of FFX-4.
To be sure Disable Direct X under Paris cfg, this way you will avoid all
DX plugins showing up.
If you need to use waves plugins, as I do, make vst versions of all your
waves plugins ( there is a free vst maker) and use them instead.
I always use Chainer as my VST chainer (100 vst plugins per track).
Never have a plugin crash.
Regards,
Dimitrios

Hey Dimitrios,

Have you used FFX -16? Does yours use a dongle?
The new one does. I probably won't buy it
because of that.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Dimitrios,

I thought of that. Just another button to push I guess.
Great!

I'm not having crashing problems with DX these days.
I'm going to roll with it and see how it flies. The quadcore
is sweet.

Did you ever start using Macro Express? That will help
if you really want to manage Paris screens easily.

What about FxPansion 3.3 and Chainer together, where FxPansion is set up to
find Chainer and Chainer set up to find the VSTmap?
Have used this combination for years now and it's working well with my Asus
M3A motherboard with AMD Quad processor, with Paris.

- Hey D.,

Macro Express is a little quirky but will do what you want.
It memorizes keystrokes and mouse moves exactly.

Most important is to decide where you want all your Paris
windows to reside. Get them all in position. Make the
keystrokes/mouse moves to open those windows in the
project window, speed it up by 1000 times and it happens instantly.

I can't survive without it these days. Do you still have the macros
I sent you a few years ago? If so they will work provided you leave
your project window in the furthest upper left corner and your group
mixer in the lower bottom right corner. My setup uses a dual monitor
setup so if yours doesn't that might mean you have to write your own.

I spent a solid day learning and configuring it. You'll probably catch
on much quicker. I'll help you if I can.

- Tom
