Ok, so I decided to fire up Paris 3.0 on my older XP machine. I got the hardware
installed again and now when I launch the app it just says "Error initializing
Paris engine... error 38/26"

I don't know what this message is...

I have three Paris EDS cards and they all say the same thing.
I have a MEC Pro, 2 442s and 2 IF2s they all say the same thing.

I am clueless here.

The same hardware works on my 98SE machine just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Do you have the challenge code from ID for that machine? It might need to
be authorized. Just a thought.

PARIS was authorized on this machine... but that was prior to changing versions
of XP. For some reason, this machine thought it had the wrong XP serial.
I changed it. Come to think of it... maybe the challenge code is based
on the original one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think you are on to something. I will have
to see if I can get a new auth from ID.

That would certainly explain why it works on my other machine.

Why didn't I think of that? haha.

OK, now I think I am sunk...

I un-installed Paris and can't re-install from my 3.0 disk.

I get the error with the AUTOEXEC.NT

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Is Paris 3.0 compatible with XP pro?

Uggg... I don't think I will be able to use Paris on this machine anymore.
Boo hoo.

Bummer.

Go here and follow the install instructions for XP carefully.

Yes, I have read this document many times. Unfortunately, the step that says
"6. Install the PARIS application" doesn't mention anything about an error
even running the installer file.

The only thing I can find on Microsoft's site about the error is from Windows2000.

I think my version of XP has some sort of security update or something that
is preventing the paris installer application from running.

I think it's Windows... grr.

If it was a clean install it might work. I am just not willing to start
over on this machine. It would take too much time. The best thing for me
to do I think is just copy all the paris projects off this machine and put
them on CD's or something for my 98SE machine that is running Paris just
fine. It would have been nice to have Paris on this machine but I only wanted
it on here to listen to some of my old projects that are lurking on it.

Oh well...

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate all the suggestions.

Just as a side note... I got this working finally.

It looks like the Autoexec.nt just didn't exist in my System32 folder for
some reason. Copied it from the repair directory and was able to re-instal
PARIS!!!

Everything works as normal now.

Yipee!!!
