Folks, I have to tell you about this new set of plugins I found by EMI (original
Abbey Road studios). I mainly use these on drums and they are so great!
I placed them on my drum tracks and didn't even have to adjust much... and
they take that rough acoustic noise in the drumset and remove it, compress
it along with the clashing cymbals... Just thought I'd share it with ye'all!

Funny; I was just using that this morning in the studio on an HD rig, and I
come here and it's a topic.
Stick it on a bus and blend it up underneath an unprocessed Music Man bass -
feels like a steel ball wrapped in a thick layer of hard rubber bouncing off
a stone wall. Wicked awesome.

Glad you liked the simile; you'll like the next part even more - the Music
Man (not mine, btw) had the deadest strings I've ever heard on a bass
manufactured after the 1960s.And you know how much of an impediment dead
strings are to getting "there" (although they can certainly get you to other
cool places).
I actually asked Warren (engineer and owner of said bass) if he'd been
rubbing butter, or maybe fried chicken, on the strings for mojo. Didn't get
around to trying my own basses on it yet, that's when I suspect the
fireworks might start.
Two thumbs up; we both love the UA-610 and its compressor that we were
tracking through - but A/B'd it was hands-down the plug-in that took the
honours.

Me thinks so too. I would love to demo this, but I don't want to buy an Ilock
to do it.

I've noticed a number of companies are doing th.is now (the iLok
demo thing); Sonnox & URS are among them. It IS kind of
inconvenient... heck I have an iLok & I think it's a bit of a
PITA to have to do some kind of activation just to demo
something

Not that I'm trying to defend or promote iLock, but I did figure out a sneaky
iLock trick - I can boot Digital Performer on my outboard FX computer w/
the iLock so as to use the Waves IR reverbs then pull the iLock, plug it
into my main studio computer and boot Protools so as to run the Waves stuff
there. So one iLock can run all the computers for a big studio. Not that
I have any great use for that trick since I use Paris... which keeps me
in Mac OS 9 which eliminates most of the cool new plugins.
The thing that bums me out is that I'd have to buy a PC to run Paris on in
Windows XP in order to demo these plugins! I've been on the verge of switching
to PC for that very reason for a while now but I don't even know if I could
put a Paris PC together with what's available on the market now. Then there's
the PC learning curve! I been a Mac guy for a long, long time...
