Okay.. I see what Apple was going for.. [message #89812] |

Okay, after my initial complaints about Logic, I now see what Apple was trying
to accomplish..
They wanted to address the features:
-Sample accurate audio editing.
-Delay compensation thru out the app..
-new audio engine
-Updated Interface
-Update the mixer.
YET........
-Maintain it's core Logic midi sequencer which is superb..
-keep those enviorments...(Hidden) thank God.
Although I would've like to see better looking Faders (Realistic), I think
this is a new step forward for Logic audio and well as one heck of a deal..
I do feel that this will put pressure on everybody and just Steinberg. I'm
told that this version of Logic handles 8 core procressors really well...
But, I've also, read that it felt a little slugish. So,time will tell.
At a price point of $500 (Plus a Mac) still hard to beat. Like SX/Neundo,
Logic is now a "true" Tracking & composing DAW that we engineers would not
mind using for a session..

LaMont, the good news is, the upgrade is only $199.00, the bad news is, my
last version is 4.6: ( I'm waiting to see what the academic price is, some
are saying it's going to be $149.00, which I doubt. Others are saying it
will be $449.00, which would make no sense because it's not upgradeable.
Since I'm going to be taking some classes, it's best for me to wait for
the academic pricing. Even at $499.00 it's a great deal for the money.
I hope all the other DAW software companies follow suit with their pricing.
The other reason I'm interested is, it looks easy to use. The less hassle,
the better. They were smart to give you an option to work in one window
like LIVE. I think in time it will improve even more, but this version is
a great start.
They say that if you upgrade, you can keep you older version on your system.
They have some tech notes on what to do to have two versions, it's under
support on Apple's web site. some people were afraid they would zap their
dongle.
Since you now own a newer Mac and the PT hardware, I think it's a no brainer
for you.

Agree: Apple just introduced Logix 8 Xpress..$149.00 or 199.00..That's nice..
I would say this: Being an early adopter of Nuendo, there's this feeling
of "been there" effect.
It seems that the Bar is Nuendo is feature set, and workflow. Apple has taken
a much needed step in that direction. Digi is trying very hard, but still
not there.

I'm glad to hear about the upgrade. Did they do anything about the font
sizes (too small) of menus and such? For me part of fluid use of a DAW
or anything on a computer is the ability to easily read things,
especially in a control room environment.
