I just posted aboout this over at GS, I need some opinions form Paris users.
This is regarding a mix due today.
here is the scenario, I am running this mix through a pair of BAE 312;s for
some coloration, the thing sounds great perfect ablsolutely brilliant, don't
touch a thing type or deal, however, as I was dumping the mix down, I noticed
on snare hit clipping the 8in lights...just one snare hit in the whole song.
Now I tried muting the snare tracks, and of course the clip lights did not
fire.
So, I tried grouping the snare tracks and ducking them with automation, no
good, even all the way down they still clip!
So the only way to avoid this is to back down the submix faders goin inot
the 312's but I really feel this is diminsihing the enitre mix.
I want to know if it should just let it slide, as I can not hear it, and
the mix sounds better over all left alone and hot.,
I do rememebr BT sayin clipping the lights was ok on drums no?
Anyway, this track is maybe one of the coolest things I have ever worked
on, to all or any of you Clash fans out there, this is gonna blow your minds
(i hope!)
So thanks for the help.

Red means on... ;-) Does it sound good? if so, who cares about the odd
channel clip... I know I don't.

What do you mean by mix bus return? are you inserting a piece of gear
onto the mix bus? if so attenuate slightly there.

Attenuated to the max!
I talked to one ME who told me not to worry about it.
Looking for a few more votes too.

yeah dude, I'm going with the Red means it's on thing here.. audio is about
ears more than meters. You dont hear it? don't sweat it.
And yea, BT said a little red red on the clippy is ok.. it's sustained notes
that don't vibe with red on the 8 in.

I am Cujo over there too,
Mastering.
A big whig ME just called me and said not to worry either.
I do hear it now, but it is not unmusical, more like an extra cracking snare.

Brent Averill 312 Mic PRe's,
The Clash were one of the great bands of all time for sure. Pure I would
call em.
Underated by people who do not know anything but "rock the casbah" and "Should
I Stay Or Should I Go" (not bad for little singles though)

Their album "London Calling" was named the best album of the 80's, by
Rolling Stone Magazine, despite the fact that it was released in '79. I saw
them in concert in 1981, great rock'n roll. Too bad that Joe Strummer went
away.

You mean in a wave editor?
yeah I thought of that, but I mut admit to being a tad paraniod about any
unwanted side effects.
I tried the auommtion deal, no worries, the mix has been approved,

So, you sound like a real fan, I was lucky to catch the "real" Clash in about
1982 then followed the "cut The Crap" lineup for about 6 shows (they were
still good) and I saw 2 Strummer Mescalaro shows whcih were hands down the
best of all.
His 3 Mescalaro discs are all great, but I like the first. I think Topper
headon may be one of rocks greatest unknown drummers.
Ok, I have to tell you about this project, it is a compilation of 37 bands
doing a tribute to "Sandinista" bands on it besides mine are The Smithereens,
Camper Van Bethoven, Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate), jason Ringenberg and many
many more. My band (The Blizzard of 78) has collaborated with Reggea star
Mikey Dread, who worked on 5 or so tunes on the original, The track is a
lot of fun. But I look forward to hearing the rest of the stuff on this thing
too, should be very intersting.

Some great musicians there. And Mickey Dread is a legend, didn't they even
mention him in one of their songs? Never got into Jones (B.A.D.) or
Strummers solo stuff. I think they were kind of Lennon/McCartney, best
together. And Topper Headon is underrated, I think he even produced or
co-produced Combat Rock. What song are your band doing?
Bjorn R
PS. Some Clash fans mistook me for beeing Paul Simonon once, at a bar the
Clash supposed to attend after a consert. I played along, have had a few
beers. I even wrote autographs. (I was young then :-)

Looking forward to hear this record.
