Hi guys,

Not sure what I did ... system been working fine for ever
(probably something needed to screw up to appease the Microsoft
gods) .... no more usb audio outs listed - still have the 6 ins,
which mean my tascam 2400 controller does not receive any data
from Cubase. I rebooted a zillion times, once I got 2 usb audio
outs back, once I got all 6 back ... now they have all gone
again! When I load the SoftLCD utility for the 2400 (puts the
'scribble' pane at bottom of screen) it seems to think that
something else is using usb audio out 6 which it what it needs.
Where do I go to trouble shoot this (other than a bar :-) )?
Device Manager etc seems not useless. TIA,

Regards,

Mic.

HI Mic,
Sounds almost like the XP 10entry limit issues. But normally it only
happens if you add more midi devices or if a driver update does not
properly remove the old entries. It could also be your US2400 dieing
which being a recent and now discontinued Tascam product it wouldn't
surprise me at all.
Is the driver showing up in device manager?

Check this link for how to do the fix for the 10entry bug fix.

Hi Chris!

2400 is OK ... it transmits fine as the 6 USB Audio Ins are
showing in Cubase. It is the 6 USB Audio Outs that have gone awol
from XP - meaning moving sliders with mouse does not transmit to 2400. The

XP MIDI limit of 0-9 is OK. I deinstalled the Unitor8 and amt8
which are also USB and I cannot reinstall them - so I think XP is
pissed that I have been programming on my Mac for the last
couple of months .... I did install a bunch of freeware
softsynths before all this - have got rid of them now but think
maybe there is a driver cluster****. Gives me something to do ..
_ I was spending too much time actually recording :-)

HI Mic,
You might want to horse around with the "Midi Port Filter" thingy in
Cubase to see if they show up and work again.
http://knowledgebase.steinberg.de/95_1.html

Otherwise you might want to make sure your USB might not be
malfunctioning. Some USB devices draw a good chunk of the voltage
available for USB and sometimes end up killing the port. on board USB
can be more prone to this.
What are your system specs and audio/midi hardware being used?

Chris
