The planet is actually warming, according to measurements.
Could that trend make grass dryer and lightning more common in some
areas? Possibly.
But the main thing to realize is that a warming planet will experience a
variety of changes in climate, influencing things like weather and
average sea level. Some of these changes may eventually make things
difficult for various species, including our own.
This is true with or without Al Gore.
But joke away anyway, Al probably has a pretty thick skin by now.

Jamie, ever bin to Florida at different times of the year? Florida has had
dry grass, pine needles etc., and these kind of fires for years, it's nothing
new.

Being "nothing new" doesn't exempt a type of event from being influenced
by global warming. With the level of warming we've seen recently, we're
not talking about creating new types of events. We're talking about
changes in the frequency and distribution of familiar events that are
climate driven.
So, for example, we may see dryer forests and more forest fires here in
the Western USA. Higher average temperatures and shifts in rainfall can
contribute to that, and those are climate driven and thus susceptible to
being influenced by warming trends.
It's difficult to pin any specific event on global warming because there
are other shorter term factors involved. But over time we may see
patterns of increases and shifts that may not be accountable by other
cycles. These patterns are easier to see after time passes, looking back.
So we may indeed find that Florida fires and/or lightning strikes are
increasing in a way that tracks with increased average temperature, in
which case Al may be right. Or we may find that Florida is instead
getting wetter, fires are decreasing and THAT may be an effect of global
warming. Or we may find that the fires are more influenced by a shorter
cycle variation, like el nino or some other climate cycle.
In short, it may be too soon to tell if some aspect of the fires are
currently being influenced by global warming yet. But I wouldn't rule
out the possibility.
