They had to get back Direct-X too many complaints.. And, since they are working
with vista, dirct-show is back on the table.

Iwish they made the interface "perkier" :) The very business like Gothic look
is getting old. still to this day, Paris's Gold -harware like interface is
a joy to look at.

To be fair, I'm not all that knocked out about Logic 8's interface. It must
be a German thing. :)

That would be my guess - a German thing.....

.....hmmm, so what explains ProTools' office cubical grey and spreadsheet
layout? A Silicon valley programmer thing? ;-)

LoL!! Man what gives!! Did SSC have the market cornered on DAW interface graphics
and color?

Well.... Paris' interface was cool, but it took up quite a bit of space that
would limit functionality in most DAWs today.
I wasn't really into the gold thing personally, but hey, it worked for
Midas. ;-) I gravitate toward blue/greys, so I'm okay with
Nuendo/C4's interfaces.

Was just there seconds ago looking at this because I need to import some
Cubase SX3 and Nuendo audio into PARIS. See new thread on this for anyone
wanting to share knowledge.

Hey Dave, okay okay.. You were right..BUT, what about Yamaha's offerings for
all of this power. I'm sure they don;t want Euphonix to get all of the DAW
controller glory?

Hi Lamont,
Yamaha Commercial Audio and Yamaha Pro Audio are almost completely
separate machines.
I kinda wish to some extent that CA got put in charge of Steinberg
instead of Pro Audio. At least for the Nuendo part.

Can't wait to get hold N4 to see if Vista is more then just a bad joke.
Chris

I forget which trade show it was, but at one of the ones I went to in the
go-go 90's when I was an audio writer I stopped by the E-mu booth (the Ensoniq
sale was still pretty recent) to talk to SSC and Edmund. Brian T was there
and it was all a big happy family. We all thought then that E-mu would be
a great thing for the platform, some extra cash, a little more stability
in the business relationship, a high profile name with more space in retail
stores. Things looked peachy. And Edmund walked over with some new plug-in
group's marketing stuff. It looked EXACTLY like PARIS. We were all saying,
'Damn, PARIS must be doing something right if it's getting ripped off.'

Little did we know . . .

I hear ya. But, CA seems tobe oblivious at times. They float and out markey
site quite often. Yammy needs a third arm division and not clupm band instruments,
kazzoos, home pianos with DAW products.

In Reaper I can take an input signal and route it simultaneously to a mono
output and to the stereo bus. That's what I want to be able to do in Cubase.

Hey DJ,

It's funny because the Roland VS boxes has nad very flexible routing since
the 1680. You can take any input, and route it all over the place.

I think you would need senderella or something like it.

It's possible to do this in Reaper with the click of a mouse. I've never
seen anything like the routing possibilities in that app. Of course, if
Cubase could route like Reaper, the control room function would be
redundant, plus it could be used with ASIO direct monitoring. God forbid
that something should work easily and without latency issues.

This would require "source" assignment, rather than output assignment.
In other words, assign a source to a particular output (or multiple
outs) instead of assigning an output to a channel or send.

David.

What you said bro. That's the ticket for me. If Reaper can do
it...well.......hmmm.....

Deej, why don't you set up various Group Channels that go to
whichever outputs you need them to, and send track channels to
the groups via EFX sends? This is for your outboard EFX
routing, right?

Back when I was selling Paris some people expressed these same thoughts,
especially if they came from Cubase or Logic. I would try to get potential
customers to look at that non hardware demo and they would get turned off
by the color and the look. I got asked if it had skins here and there.
Some loved it and some thought it was yuk.

By the way, I'm glad we're on to different subjects.

As I basically said recently, I think the 64bit thing will happen in time
and everybody will be doing it. I also think that most of the objections
to Vista for audio will be resolved in time also.
