Ok guys and gals,
I am at a point in this mix where every tweak I do just makes it sound worse.
I think that means it is about done.
I would like to save as MP3 and post for your listening enjoyment. I would
really appreciate any critisism be it good, bad or indifferent. Does anyone
have the capacity to host the MP3? Maybe I could throw it up on rapidshare
or something....

A couple things I have noticed....
1. On computer speakers the mix sounds washed in verb.
I don't understand this since it sounds really nice on every other system
I have played it on.(cars, home stereos, jamboxes)The only thing I can think
of to remedy this is to EQ the verb with a low shelf. Any suggestions?
2. In the beginning there is some distorion on a couple high notes on the
vox. I think this is due to the Antares Warmer plug. I need to check it out.

Man do I hate getting to that point, it's like sand slipping through your
fingers.
I must say what amazes me about working with old school guys, they don't
sweat the mix out so much, I remember working with a guy a few years ago
on a desk with tape and he'd have the mix amazing sounding then he'd say
fuck it, it isn't the one, zero out the faders and start again. DJ's bud
Ed Stasium (who has been involved in some of the most influential rock of
all time) told me the same thing. Don't kill yourself over it, if the song
is good and you were vibing to it, it's done. That said, I'm heading to remix
hell soon myself. Ug.

I wan't to hear, I know that 2 of my big mistakes used to be too much bass
and too much verb, so now I set up to whre I like it then brign it down
acouple of clicks. Frustrating though for sure. What verb are you using?
I think that makes a diff as well, I admit to being wary of Paris verbs now.
Try cranking up the definition a bit.

Hey Brandon, I can host it for you for a few days at least...
e-mail the mp3 to me:

neil DOT henderson AT sbcglobal DOT net

I'll post a note here when it's uploaded.

Cujo,

I have really enjoyed this mix.
It is helping me understand and get aquainted with my new mixing environment.
I will post a pic of my studio soon too. At first I tried soloing the guitars
and the vox and making EQ edits on how I thought they should fit together
like puzzle pieces. This quickly sounded like sh*t. I zeroed everything out
and for the first time ever I actually started with the vox...making minor
EQ adjustments to level it out and then bringing up the guitars. I then proceeded
to EQ the guitars with the vox playing. I have always read to avoid soloing
instruments during mixing...yet I never did it...until now.. I am very pleased
with the results. The mix came together rather quickly. I am using SIR with
a PCM90 verb.

Neil,
I sent you an email thx.

Also, big discovery....I had some stupid a$$ 3D effect on my comp speakers.
I shut it off and wahla!! It sounds a lot better.
So what you hear is what I intended if you are listening on computer speakers
as long as you don't have any of those stupid a$$ effects happening too ;-)

I'm pretty jealous that you guys know and/or get (got) advice from Ed
Stasium - I've been a fan of some of his work for quite a long time.

ya buncha punks,
-Carl

Hey Brandon...

I got your mix file, but for some reason my server is not
letting me do any updates/uploads right now, so I can't host it
after all (at least until something gets fixed on the server
side).

Sorry!

Neil
