Hi all

As my Paris rig is officially dead we're going to be building a new rig
based on the Asus P5B MB and we're going to attempt to house 2 EDS cards and
2 UAD-1e cards on it. Now when I asked Chris Ludwig about this he was a tad
leary and UAD tech support was no help at all but in spite of this we
decided to live dangerously and jump in feet first. Bottom line here is I'm
going to need a rig with PCIe slots to host a vituavia expansion system in
the event this doesn't work so this kills two birds with one stone.

We haven't settled on which chip set to use and we are going to
significantly upgrade the RAM to the latest and greatest that the MB will
handle.

Should have the build done by Sunday and fully tested by Tuesday. Now I
realise this isn't a huge system and assuming it works it will make life a
lot easier.

Wish me luck

Don

Myself, like alot of other longtime PARIS users, are at a "cusp" of what to do
when our current XP system breaks down...Unless I can get $20,000 for a Mac
and ProTools HD,it's not worth moving from PARIS..Vista is a joke....This
ASIO re-build seems like a very good solution to prolonging Paris future
life...It is getting difficult to find MBs with lots of PCI anymore...thanks
a million to keeping it alive...

Mike is a hero, he's changed the future for PARIS die-hards already.

Hey, I have a completely counterintuitive suggestion. Got a PCI-E slot on your current PARIS computer? Maybe you should consider going ahead and buying yourself a VirtuaVia chassis for the relatively low amount it costs, and moving your PARIS rig into it.

That may seem like a weird thing to do, since you'd have spent money and gone through a "gear dance", for the immediate gain of absolutely zero. No added functionality.

But with TC's great work testing the VirtuaVia chassis, and all Mike's incredible driver work last year, it's now become a smart "future-proofing" move. You'd have:

1) freed yourself from having to choose your future mobo from a small subset of available mobos and cases (ones with sufficient PCI slots, and lest we forget, those of sufficient physical size to hold a PARIS card without bumping into a drive bay etc),
2) absorbed one of the predictable costs of a future PC upgrade in advance so it doesn't all hit at once later, and
3) made re-installing your PARIS rig on a new computer in the future far, far easier - instead of the traditional hassle of reloading the cards, juggling slots, doing your cross cabling, figuring out which EDS card is the Master etc, you just load one card (the VirtuaVia PCI-E host card) into the new puter and and install the PARIS software. If you don't run into any particular gremlins, you'd be up and running in a fraction of the time after a computer upgrade. That's likely going to be my own approach.

They have 1024 samples latency
So maybe could be a nice addition to paris
So you will not tax your cpu and I am sure it will have better sound if
it uses some dsps...

Wake up semi conscious and stagger zombie-like to kitchen.

Grind coffee, pour it into a filter basket, fill decanter with water, fill
coffee maker, then turn it on.

Find coffee cup in sink.

Pour a little honey colored dishwashing liquid in bottom of cup.

Lazy dogs decide to get up now that they see that I'm awke and walk to the
back door and start doing the *I gotta go pee* dance.

Set coffee cup on kitchen counter and go to back door and let lazy dogs out
to pee.

Stagger zombie-like back to kitchen counter, grab coffee cup, stagger
zombie-like over to refrigerator and grab the half and half.

Continue to stagger zombie-like over to the coffee maker where I have my
little honey bear. I pick up aforementioned honey bear to dribble some
wonderful local Colorado clover honey into bottom of coffee cup but see
thick golden syrupy substance in the bottom and so I
think........."hmmmmm.........must've already done that".

Pour half and half in cup on top of dishwashing liquid in bottom of cup

he recording
process...so i took my removable drive from the computer [the drive that
was bottlenecking], slapped it in a firewire case and hooked it up..it wrote
fine with no hangups. mind you, this is a firewire card installed, not the
onboard firewire buss..

so:
a. it isn't the hard disk itself
b. the firewire bus is fast enough to run full open 32 tracks at 24/48k
c. something is amiss with my secondary IDE master

i was writing [audio] to my system *C* drive to test, and it was working
beautifully, but when i would write to my secondary IDE it would act like
data was bottlenecking and slowing down (but not stopping) t
