ARRRGH! Alright - tell you what... I'll see if I can get one of
the guys in the band I start tracking some stuff with tomorrow
night to get a few snaps. That way you can see a typical rawk
carnage setup at my facility (such as it is), and maybe a shot
of me or two amidst the carnage that you can pick from. OK?

There's three of Deej, two of Art Guy. You're not alone.
Yeah, that's why I did this. I always pictured Deej as looking a lot
like PeeWee Herman. Or maybe the late, great Larry "Bud" Melman.
And for some reason, I picture Neil looking like Tiny Tim, but with
dreadlocks.
And that's what I'm sticking with until he proves me wrong.

I have some pictures taken from a Paris Dinner a couple of years ago in NYC,
with me (Lou Guarino), Gene Lennon, Thad (yes, TCB), Paul Artola, Sakis,
Morgan (from
East coast sound), and others if you want them I could send them to you to
put up on the site. I even have one of Chuck Duffy with Jason Miles.
email me and let me know if you want them. Paul Artola even has more
I think.

I've had extensive cosmetic surgery in order to have plausible deniability
that I was at that dinner, so keep that in mind if Lou gets through his mail
server problems.

Thanks for the nurse picture, Sarah. Only thing is I can't really make
out your uniform.
We are so lucky to have you around. I think this is the only audio forum
that can boast a beautiful (and talented) woman actually hangs out
there. Sure the other sites get the occasional question from some chick,
but then she's gone as soon as she finds out the cute little heart shape
on the microphone is not the "love song" setting.

You just go on believing that, pally.
But seriously, Hey, dammit, I've been BUSY!!! In any event, one
of the guys in this band I'm tracking brought his digital
camera yesterday & took a few snaps... now I just need to get
him to e-mail them to me & I WILL SEND YOU ONE!
Tomorrow, though, I should have some mp3 files to post...
getting some really nice sounds with these guys & the drum kit
is coming out fan-freakin-tastic. Tomorrow we're off from
recording & resume Friday, so I think I'll have time to post an
mp3 or two of the basic tracks with signal chain info for those
who might be interested.
Six tracks of rhythm guitars using three amps, bass is nice &
thick, and attackey & gooey at the same time, drums are
slammin'. Sounds like a mix without even being mixed.
That's the way I like to record!

OK, then... here it is:
http://saqqararecords.com/MiscAudio/SedationClip-basictrax.m p3
This is NOT mixed, these are just basic tracks, with a couple
of minor tweaks. This clip isn't too long (less than 2 minutes,
IIRC) here's the signal chain rundown:
Drums were my Yammy Kit, and we opted for the Joey Jordisson
model snare mic'ed with...
Kick = Audix D6/Chandler TG2
Snare = Audix D5/Chandler TG2
Hat = Earthworks TC30/Focusrite ISA 428
Toms = Audix D4's/MOTU 8Pre
OH's = B.L.U.E. Bluebirds/Mucusrite ISA 428
Bass was a Spector 4 string with EMG P'ups through an Ampeg
SVT-450 with the classic Ampeg 8x10 cab; mic'ed as follows:
Topmost right side speaker = Rode K2/Avalon 737SP
(6db boost at 3k & 10k on the Avalon, no compression going in)
Left speaker 1 row down from the top = TLM-103/Focusrite ISA 428
Guitar was my Epi Les Paul Standard through the following
configurations:
1st Pass.. y-split into two separate amps...
* Randall solid-state head into Randall 4x12 cab, mic'ed with:
Bottom left speaker = SM-57/Great River MP2NV, xfrmrs loaded
Bottom Right speaker = B.L.U.E. Ball/Grace 101
* My Line6 SpiderII 1x12 Combo set on standard "Crunch" model,
mic'ed with:
Audix i5/Focusrite Red8
Sennheiser e609 Silver/Great River MP2NV, transformers loaded
2nd pass (doubling the first pass) was my Sovtek 50W Tube Midget
head into a Celestion 2x12 cab, mic'ed with:
Audix i5/Focusrite Red8
B.L.U.E. Ball/Grace 101
Everything went straight into the analog in's on my main RME
Multiface except for the ISA 428, which I have the digi i/o
card for, and so that went into the lightpipe in's on the main
Multiface, and for the MOTU 8-Pre I used the lightpipe out into
the 2nd Multiface.
What you're hearing on the tracks as far as processing goes is:
Kick = some multiband comp, no EQ of any kind
Snare = Paris VST EQ... a little 5k & 10k boost
Toms = Paris VST EQ... a bit of a 7k boost
Guitars = Cut about 7db @ 100hz on the 2 Randall cab channels
That's it! Everything else is just as it went to track.
Enjoy.
Neil
