Hi all,

I dumped the big KK desk and went back to good speaker stands and minimal
furniture.

Ikea rocks!
I found a cool patio table made of beautiful wood that is not solid.
It is made of individual boards with openings between them, so it
does not act as a solid reflector.

Here it is:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay ?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId= 17580

It is very solid and doesn't wiggle at all. I haven't measured the
monitors with everything in place yet, but I listened to music as
I was putting it all together and did not hear anything strange
happening.

Holy cow! The monitors sound very much better!
I am listening to the net feed from KUSC.org and it just shines.
I am very happy. Now I need to setup the sub with the analyzer
and get this record mixed.

I will post a pic as soon as I can.

BTW, I am thinking of losing the computer monitor too and hanging
a decent data projector and a screen behind the monitors. Any of
you work using a projector? Comments?

TIA

Never with a projector, but I did work with a pretty large
monitor up in front of the console on an SSL, where all the
Total Recall settings were displayed... felt awkward &
fatiguing to be having to look up, then down, then up, then
down, etc, etc while setting up the knobs on a recalled mix.

I could be wrong, as I haven't used one in about a year, but the fans are
annoyingly loud on them that I've ever used, including the DLP
models...IMO.. I can't say I would recommend a projector over that issue
alone. Then there is the wash out issue I note in the visual part of it, and
pixelation. Check native resolution is good enough also, last I looked they
were around 1024/768 and Paris likes 1280/1024.. at least the way I use it,
it does. YMMV.

Good point. I think they are getting quieter, but I need to look at
the noise spec.

I run Paris at 1600/1280 on a 19" CRT and it is about right for
me. The projectors will usually let you run at higher than native
rez but it can get fuzzy.

Agreed. I should be able to put the screen behind and between
the monitor speakers so it should not be too high, but yes it will
not be as easy to visually shift between the C16 and the computer
image as it is now. During a mix I get the faders pretty much
memorized and use the computer screen for everything else, so I
should not need to look at the C16's too much.

What I am looking for is even less "stuff" between me and the
monitor speakers and this may be one solution, but it clearly has
some potential problems too.

How about a beeeg LCD between the audio monitors?

Something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E168242480 08

Of course, the Blue&White G3 has NO widescreen format output
settings, so there are other issues, but then there always are if you
even think about changing something in the studio huh?

I have been using those eye goggles with little lcd
screens in them...The kind for video games.
Then I just have wireless mouse in my
lap and adjust everything that way.
There is no desk in front of me..nothing at all to effect the
sound from the monitors..
It rocks!!!

OK JK but this is a cool idea.
probably fatiguing on the eyes.

800 X 600 resolution

Too bad. If it was 1600 x 1200 I'd be all over this.

they have a headgear mount that allows you to flip the goggles up and down
for an extra $300.00. Of course, I'd need something that looked more like
the compound eyes of an insect to see all the stuff I keep up on screens
around here.

I've been keeping an eye on the above item. It may work with your situation
pushing behind the audio monitors.

I would check it out at your local stores first so you could return it if it
sucks.
Be sure and read through the Newegg.com reviews as there are a few tricks to
get the proper settings through an on screen menu.

YMMV...

El Miguel

Good price! Unfortunately none of the widescreen formats are
supported by the G3...
