I'm kind of thinking out loud.

What kind of native plugins would you guys like to see developed for Paris?

What do you think you guys would be willing to pay for these plugins?

If we could get the algorithms ported from the Ensoniq DP pro, what would
you guys be willing to pay for that?

I'm not sure that this is possible, but, what would you guys be willing to
pay for automatic plugin delay compensation?

If you could have somebody do coding work for Paris, what would you have
them do? What would you be willing to pay for this software/service?

I may have somebody interested.

James

I would pay $300.00 without even thinking twice, just for this one feature
if I could use UAD-1 cards..

Ok, the number one request would be latency compensation! This might be a
tuff one, but Ok. What about the other questions? What about native Paris
plugins? This is probably where we'd start.

A little more input please.

I'm not sure what you have in mind, but I would think that for PDC you'd
need access and the rights to the original Paris code, which ID don't seem
willing to part with. I don't think it's possible otherwise, though I'd be
very happy to be proven wrong.

Cheers,
Kim.

James,

ALC would be first on my list also, along with support for VST instruments,
but you're right about those things being on the "very difficult" side of
things.

As far as EDS effects, I'm actually very happy with what we've already got.
I'm not really missing anything.

The places PARIS lacks for me is in VST support, and more flexible routing
and grouping. Again, these things will be hard to tackle.

I'd support development for some more variety in comps, chorus,
delays,modulation effects, etc. $100.00 for a good multi-pack?

Definitely more for ALC and major improvements along those lines.

Not for me. There aren't enough/powerful enough DSP chips. The DP Pro algos
are gonna suck them right up. There's just not enough horsepower to run
enough of these per submix to make it worth further efforts. I would support
bringing whatever Chuck had on the boards to some sort of conclusion, but
PDC is the bottom line for me, and second would be being able to buss native
FX to the Paris auxes. Get these two things accomplished and it's a HUGE
deal......for me at least.

James,
I'm with Deej. Auto delay comp and native effects on auxes
would be easily worth the $300 to me. Major issues at this point.

New effects are fun but there are so many third party jobs it's not
that important to me. The Paris comp and NoLimit are just too good
as they are. A side chain insert would be nice for gates and comps. =20
Didn't somebody say they were doing that already? Hmmm?

Can't you use Wires to side chain Tom?

Hi,
I would like to drop in too here...

I am sure we could gather 100 people here willing to pay 300$ for the delay
compensation and aux DX/VST as global insert also.

That makes around 30.000 $ which is sufficient in my own oppinion to justify
the work.

But can someone do this without code ?

I think chuck can enlighten us if he has any access to this.

I think though that someone could build a VST plugin that could work as delay
compensator.
That plugin could be loaded on every Paris audio track say at the bottom
VST slot so every vst added on any audio track would "inform" all vst instances
of that plugin to delay all tracks for the amount needed.
Maybe that more easy to do and would get paid a lot less than the above amount
of money.
If I had the programming skills thats what I would do.
Anyone knows programming ?
I could give him more details about my idea...
Regards,
Dimitrios

I don't know whether this can be done but some sort of metering of
parameters in all EDS plugs...i.e. on the compressor - an input level meter
/ level of compression meter / ouput level meter. Same with the chorus,
delays, reverbs etc.

I like visuals...coloured blinky lighty thingies

I agree with others, a delay comp plug would be very helpful. I still
wonder about Matt's reverb plug and what became of it, but would it be
possible to make a reverb plug that was better than the stock Paris verbs,
but not a resource hog? I use the Room reverb and the Plates, but generally
only for short rooms, or in the "background." It would be to have something
whose quality would sit somewhere between the Paris verbs and and something
"higher end."
....and I hope the price might be somewhat below 300.00 -poor boy that I am.
Thanks James,
MR

Yeah, PDC and native fx on auxes for me also. Those, and fix the render bug
where everything gets timewhacked if there's a small gap in the edit.

Buy a Lexicon Alpha for $129, strictly for the purposes of the
Pantheon license (and you'll also get a copy of CubaseLE for
free - there's your integrated MIDI app, as well).

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Alpha/

And you'll also get a complementary doorstop! (the convertor box)

Just copy the Pantheon DLL over to your VST folder & you're
rollin' with a nice 'verb that's not too ridiculous when it
comes to pigging out on all your CPU cycles.

As for the Latency Compensator VST plug, you guys should e-mail
Aleksey at Voxengo & see if he can do it for you. I'm betting he
could.

would you guys be willing to pay for a VST to EDS FX wrapper? What do you
think it would be worth?

I have not tried FXpansion yet. Will it wrap a VST and run it natively on
the EDS1000 card? With out latency?

Let me see that...
You mean that to be able to run VST plugins on Paris dsp's ?
That would be great...
Is though a Paris dsp sufficient to run any VST plugin ?
I am sure if it does the vst plugins will sound BETTER running on Paris dsp...
I would pay for 150$

Dear Don,
Would you ever believe that FXpansion by itself would wanna suicide and make
a VST to EDS wrapper ?
And also without latency ?
Nice thought,
Regards,
Dimitrios

What do you think the problem is with XP not working with multiple Adat cards?
Is this a fix you guys would be willing to pay for?

The DP Pro used the same ESP2 chips as Paris, so I don't think it would suck
up that much horsepower. Does anybody know how many ESP2 chips are in a
DP Pro?

Can any of you AU guys try to look up Mathew Craig?

Anybody know how to reach Kevin Monahan? He was doing some video production
company last time I heard.

I don't know what can be done, but if there is a chance that we can improve
Paris we should try.

Hey Chuck! Can you fill us in on what you think is possible? Is there any
thing that you or anybody else was working on that could be completed by
somebody else that has the time?

Thanks

Hey Chuck, one other thing. What programming language was used to write Paris

Hi James,

I contacted Matt about a year ago, and he had just moved to England. I asked
him about the mega verb, and he said that he just needed to get an online
payment/delivery system setup, and he would make it available. I never heard
from him after that.

About a month ago, I emailed him at every address that I had and could find.
I haven't heard back yet, but you never know.

Personally, I'm finishing up my second compuer science course so that I can
work on the effects. I'm hoping ot take a third this summer.

All the best,
Mike

Yeah! And right after we accomplish magically translating between DSP and
x86 microcode maybe someone can hook me up with Jenny McCarthy? I hear she's
single now.

Just joshin'! ^-}

This makes the 8th and/or 9th time I've read here that someone wants to know
where this guy is. I did some light sleuthing; here's what I found in 3
minutes. If this is him, I figger I'm owed at least a McDonald's gift
certificate or something.

>I think though that someone could build a VST plugin that could work as
delay compensator<

UAD has a VST delay compensator. The problem with it is that the delay it's
compensating for is *HUGE*. This puts the audible sound so far behind the
waveform that using automation is pretty much impossible.

Right now, I think Dimitrios has come about as close as we're going to get
with this using his ingenius coctail of wrappers and consoles. I haven't
tried it yet, but if 90 ms (M?L) is possible and it's possible to create a
32-48 track mix template with this combination of VST wrappers, etc.
inserted on each channel without too much CPU overhead , then this is major
and pretty much puts the automation issues to rest. This could be very
usable.

I've got virtually *zero* plugin delay working with Paris/Cubase hybrid rig,
but it is neither cheap nor simple.

Dimitrios method could, in theory, allow a template to be created with a VST
chainer which would allow multiple UAD plugins per channel running at the
same latency and at the same time a compensator could be inserted in this
scenario which would, when a preset is used, allow virtual delay
compensation by simply nudging a Paris track 100ms to the left in the
deitor. This is much simpler than the hoops I'm jumping through with flying
files back and forth between computers..........much much simpler. The only
issue for me would be CPU the overhead created by a 48 track mix timplate
with this stuvff inserted on each channel..

oops.......sorry Dimitrios....I'm talking to you like you're the third
person here. I meant to be answering Tony's original subthread here.
