Definitely was a lucrative business at one time. I had a friend who sold
ads for a radio station in Rhode Island. He started selling jingles (he is
a musician, his wife a great singer) to those clients while he had them on
the phone for radio ad time. Within a few months he started his own
production company (not doing jingles anymore, but a successful company it
seems).
We have a large well-known local production company here doing jingles dirt
cheap - about what it would cost me to hire and record a couple of
vocalists. Imho, it kind of killed the market here for the most part.
Definitely not worth my time to try and compete with them. Oddly their
hourly rates are some of the highest in town, if not the highest.

I think around the early to mid 80's that may have been true, (but probably
not), but not since then.
Thanks for the thought though...that seems like a lifetime ago....my kids
were babies then, now their adults and flown the coop.

Yeh, I think that the new batch of BT are current as of this year, and shown
here, but the 80's ones were made especially for the US market, still using
us, (aussie crews).It sure was interesting doing many of the stories twice,
one for international release, and the US one, with a US presenter.
They were fun days........too old now...I could do it again, they're looking
for older (experienced) crews, but the conditions and hours are nowhere near
as good as we had them.....
