I'm completing a project that I'm mixing and also mastering. I'm trying to
put CD text on the CD but I can't get it to work. I've got a Plextor Plexwriter
Premium. It says it's CD text capable. I'm using wavelab 4.0 and have typed
in the CD text.
When I burn the CD there's no text. Also, when I click on the infor for the
Plextor the "allows CD text" box is not checked, and it won't allow me to
check it. I noticed that (after doing some google searching) that when I
try to rip a commercial CD that has CD text (checked it with another computer)
it won't display the text. Has anyone here had this experience with Plextors
or have any knowledge about this in general? Does it have anything to do
with CDDB?
Thanks

I have had the same burner for years and have no problems at all.
Burned projects in Wavelab Essential and Essential 6 and tested the
CD's with Plextools for problems. CD text have allways showed up. In
Plextools you can also see what features the Plextor burner have. It
will show up if the cd-text can be burned. If not, I think the burner
have a problem.

So you have a Plextor Premium on a pc with Wavelab, and you have no problem
burning CD's with text?

HI Rod,
Confirm which firmware you are using on the drive.
I think you can do this in Wavelabs CD info page. If not then use Nero's info Tool to do it.
ftp://ftp6.nero.com/tools/InfoTool.zip
If you firmware is lower than version 1.07 then you should update it.
http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/Premium_107 .exe
If that doesn't work then make sure you are using the most recent WL4 update.
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/WaveLab/4.0.1.B/Pc/WaveLab_ 401b_Patch.zip

CD Text and Track/artist/album info that displays on a computer are two different
things. The latter is generated by CDDB, or freedb which is an internet database
that compiles song and artist info. When a disc is loaded in a computer,
the host program (iTunes for instance) will look for Track info, by comparing
the data of the disc just loaded with profiles of discs already in the database.
It compares things like number and length of tracks. If you have a disc that
you want profiled in the database, enter all the info in your host program,
then "submit track names" under advanced in iTunes. This will mean that anytime
that disc is inserted by anyone, anywhere into a computer connected to the
web, all the track/artist/album info will be available to the user.
CD text usually contains similar info to CDDB, but it is displayed on hardware
units, like dedicated set top disc players
and car stereos. It normally would not display on a computer.
I think...

As I've said. Used it for years. Now I'm using Plextor PX-755 too.
Have you anytime upgraded the firmware for the burner?
If not, go here:
http://www.plextor.com/english/support/support_downloads.htm l#firm
and download and install the last firmware for the burner, to see if
that will help. You can also see if you have the last Wavelab CD/DVD
recorder updates for PC Windows here:
http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/steinberg_support_downlo ads.html
Hope some of these things will help you and good luck.
By the way, Plextool is a really strong product to both burn and
afterwards control the quality of the Plextor burnings. I know Brian T
was one of the first here to use that burner with Plextools. He wrotes
much about it here, so much that I buied the burner too. Do you still
have the CD with the software, following with the Plexwriter Premium
buying?

I've just tested an audioCD burned with Wavelab Essential 6 on one of
my other computers, with an Optiarc AD-7200S burner. Now it's playing
on the computer with Plextor/Plextools in Plextools. The CD-text are
showing up everything from the CD that was written in Wavelab on the
other computer. These things are not showing up at all in Windows
Media Player, as far as I can find out.
Someone who knows how to get CD-text to show up in Win MediaPlayer?

Thanks, yes, I bought the Plextor because of Brian T also. Never any problems,
but I've never tried to burn CD txt before now. I emailed plextor tech support,
and the said wavelab didn't fully support the plextor drive. Now that you
tell me you've been using it with wavelab essentials, I think that was BS.
I havn't upgraded the firmware for a few years. It's 1.02 or something like
that. One thing that concerns me is it looks like that's the firmware for
the Premuim-U, which I think is the usb version. I have the premuum internal.
There doesn't seem to be any updates beyond 1.02 for the internal. Chris
Ludwig posted the same links for Plextor and Wavelab. I haven't installed
the updates yet , but will try to get it done today.

Read the post by Ted Gerber at the bottom of this thread. It appears that
windows media player, and maybe itunes also, gets the track info from CDDB
or fredb instead of CD text.
