ng Apple computers, than there are using Apple iPods. That would make
>Apple, a computer company.

What exactly Apple is or isn't is purely subjective. I think they were a
visionary company a long time ago. I think they are still a superb consumer
electronics and design company, and nobody can managey hype like Steve Jobs.
They were first to market with a really superb product that will be emblematic
of the oncoming tidal wave of portable devices that will largely replace
the desktop computers that we use now. Then again, they were first to make
a home computer seem like a good (and chic) idea and they managed to parlay
that into . . . near bankruptcy. That's what I think Apple is.

I don't think they've been terribly visionary of late. One of the great ironies,
in my opinion, of the past few years in the computer racket is that IBM has
probably been the most vibrant, agile, and visionary company in the business.
Stodgy old IBM. They have been the most vocal proponent of free software
in the corporate world, and have put up real amounts of their own money to
go to court against spurious lawsuits (the SCO one mostly) that try to destroy
the integrity of free software. They have given mountains of code back to
the free software commu

s than fantastic on PPC processors. This
came in response to someone saying a 1.3 Ghz Celeron running OS X was out-benchmarking
much faster/more expensive G5s. I had heard similar things some time back
and investigated and found articles about how poorly multiple threads are
managed. Presented with the fact that, surprisingly considering how dense
I am, I was not peddling "urban legend" Jamie decided that OS X was good
enough for him. This has absolutely nothing to do with the argument and I
said so.

As something of a computer expert, my friends often ask me for help with
their computers. My deal with them is that I'll be a lot more willing to
help if they let me set it up right in the first place. Being the ravenous
MCSE certified Winows zealot you mentioned before, starting about a year
ago I would set up everything as a dual boot system, one GNU\linux (usually
Ubuntu) and one Windows. That's what Windows zealots do, you know. So far,
all but one (out of six or seven) have settled on Ubuntu as their preferred
platform. The one who didn't was a graphic designer so I wasn't surprised
that she needed a slew of Windows apps. Maybe if I had been a designer I
could have guided her a bit but it didn't work out. Windows users, by the
way, seem to prefer KDE as their desktop, while total newbies or OS X users
seem to prefer Gnome (as do I). The point? Ubuntu is 95% of the way there
as a free software desktop. A few things are irritating--CD/DVD burning is
less than ideal, and wireless cards that don't have native kernel drivers
can be a ginormous pain in the ass to get working. That said, viruses are
essentially non-existent, the package management (using dpkg and apt-get)
is the best in the world by far without a doubt nobody can argue it. OpenO

I got a cll the other day from a pollster and I couldn't believe the
convoluted, manipulative way the questions were couched. They were designed
to have only one outcome. Nothing is objective or unbiased these days. I
think that your ideas about the way the majority of Americans feel about
their government may be wrong., but I don't know for sure, because we have
only polls as reference until election time is over plus a few days because
and we all know........exit polls are as flawed as other polls.

Oooooh Noooo! Jamie, did you have to say that??? Now this is going to get
political. You might as well have just told them that Rush Limbaugh is a
big Mac user! This is sure to start some stuff.

Is GWB aware that Al Gore sits on Apples board of directors?

hosts can all agree, then OSX must be truly subversive. :^)

My RAID will also be S-ATA. I ment to take 2X Segate 250Gigs.
So, no any problem with PARIS and s-ata RAID?

Sorry, I'm little bit stupid today... maybe because of buzz consumed
last night... khh, khh... ;)

You still have P2BLS? My is working for the last 8 years and I must
say it's flawless!! Even now, with XP, newest software, 2EDS, Matrox,
RME and NEC usb2 controller, 2SCSI disc and 1 IDE drive, ALL inside and
CPU overclocked 25%. I wish my new computer be so stable and reliable....
As I mentioned before, I have an exactly the same comp for cubase right now.
It's an P43.2G northwood, Intel 875PBZ mbo, 2GB of crucial CL2 mem,
matrox G550 and 2x Segate 250gb s-ata in RAID. Works great for cubase and
stuff...

here is the pic of it.... good old mother f____r! nice, isnt it? ;)

I’ve been running RAIDs on my Macs and PCs for years and so far I have had
zero problems. I do back up frequently.
I have posted here previously with some benchmark results.
GeneDJ is from the future. I was just playing around so I was trying to
find a plug to do this but it makes TOTAL sense to ride the faders and
automate. DOH.

This girl who sang is an untrained teen and I was just recording her for
fun. So I was thinking a plug would totally tame it. I was wrong ;-)

;>>JohnTHE industry standard is Discreet Smoke/Flame and the big bro HD
versions. They are half a million bucks but worth it. You'll find Avid
used in a lot of editorial houses and Premier/Final Cut/Vegas used by
pro-sumers. And the results go exactly hand-in-hand with product level.
Final Cut, imho, is the best prosumer app with the least artifacting.

I would absolutely want a non-colored pre. In my case that would be GML.
If you can't afford that, the original Great River is now popping up on
eBay for good prices, and you can occassionaly get a two channel Millennia
for $1200-$1400.They said they were going out on the 3rd, so watch for em around then...
