Guys, I've got some major problems and could use some serious advice.

System

Win98se
512 Ram
Asus 8n8x motherboard
Asus 9600se dual head video PCI card
OS drive
Audio drive
Paris 3.0 3 card system

I recently added a Magma Chassis. Successfully moved all three cards to chassis
without incident. Paris works without flaw.

I then added a new Memorex CD/DVD burner. System looked good until I attempted
the first CD burn. Though the cd burned, I crashed and received the following
error:

0028:c004d8c5 in vxd vfat(01) + 0000b8ed
0028:c1c2f4c0 in VXD voltrack(04) + 00000430

I removed the connection to the MEC and Magma chassis to no avail. I googled
it, but could not make head nor tales of the problem, so after several hours,
I removed the Memorex drive, then reinstalled the original CD writer. Though
I did not receive the "voltrack" error anymore, I could only read the "Nero"
software installation cd. When I attempt to read ANY other cd the system
locks up.

I entered "Safe mode" to see if I could find resolution there, then I received:

"There is a problem with your display settings. The adaptor type is incorrect
or the current settings do not work with your hardware."

At this point, the system no longer goes into "Safe mode", nor shows the
IRQ screen....it simply freezes until I do a 'hard" reset. I can force my
way into "Safe mode" at boot up, but it does not show any specific details
regarding my Asus adaptor, only the generic monitor settings.

Any and ALL assistance appreciated!!!

Tyrone

Deej, many thanks for your willingness to assist, but after a long (and I
do mean long) and hard fought 24 hour battle, I have prevailed. The cause
of all of my problems was the Memorex DVD/CD burner I installed. It really
freaked my entire system out! Even after removing it, I found that it had
corrupted my video driver files as well as having caused a host of other
issues.

I have not "ghosted" my C:\ drive...scary thought...getting on that after
I return from LA.

Thanks again!

Tyrone

I had a Memorex DVD burner too... it was the pits! I had a ghost of my
system, but it wouldn't work either. I replaced just about everything in
the system, come to find out that IT was the culprit... NEVER again will I
buy their products!

I've got a Memorex USB CD burner on my Cubase rig. It sorta sucks actually,
sometimes hanging at boot. I'm getting ready to lose it because I never use
it and I need the USB port it's using for the KORE system that just arrived
today. These things are being blown out really cheap at Office Depot. Now
it's pretty obvious why I guess.

I have a Memorex CD/DVD reader/burner (external USB-type), and
I've had no problems with it, works fine, etc. The only
weirdness is that Cubase can't see it - was trying to import a
song from a client's CD for a tempo reference, and it just
wouldn't see the player - wasn't the CD, as I checked it with
another CD, as well. I have a feeling this is some kind of
driver weirdness, though, as I've had various driver issues
with this mobo. Everything else on the computer sees the drive
(Windows Media Player, Nero), just not Cubase.

Also, had to pull some samples off a CD-R for a band I had done
a demo for recently, it was just a regular CD-R with wav files
on it, and Cubase couldn't see the drive in that case, either...
had to just do a straight copy & paste into the audio folder
for that project, then import the files from there - no big
deal, but kind of stupid I couldn't do it straight from the app.

So either it's a driver thing or a Cbuase thing - not sure
which. The drive itself is fine & works great - sorry to hear
you guys are having issues with your Memorexes ( or is it
"Memorices"? Memorexi"?).

My system won't recognize a CD in the Memorex unless the CD is inserted at
boot up. Wavelab deoesn't see it at all. There's probably a patch for WL
though.....maybe for Cubase as well on the Steiny website........maybe?

Glad you got it all sussed out.

Long ago, BrianT recommended the Plextor Premium on a seperate
computer for hastle free burns. I did that and leave my Paris platform
to do what it does best.

I had the same problem with a brand new system I just built (BTW-thanks to
Chris Ludwig for his help on my power supply issue). Then I found this tip
that fixed it for me from the Wavelab forum:

Make a backup of your system
Get wnaspi32.dll from this place: ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll
Copy wnaspi32.dll into the WaveLab folder
Uninstall ASAPI (Control Panel / Remove programs)
Then reboot

I copied the file to the Nuendo folder and it now sees CD audio too.
