Hey Everyone,

I just picked up a Royer R121 ribbon and a Shure SM57 combo (with the AxeMount dual mic clip) for recording electric guitar. I've got to say I'm blown away with how good this sounds. I truly just "followed the directions" (many descriptions for exact mic placement and how to check for phase alignment on the internet) and got a clear, punch tone that sounded fantastic. I've tested it with a EVH 50W combo on both the red and blue channels, and I'm going to try out some other, lower gain, amps that I have. I had been using just an SM57 for high gain guitars, and a RE20 for lower gain and clean, but I think this combo might be my new goto for all electric guitar recording going forward.

Thanks for the info Rich, I have an AEA N8, Alder H44 pair, and a Stager stereo SN-2R here with an SM57... I'm going to try that setup the next time I'm tracking some amps.

Edit: I need to pick up a close field ribbon like the 121 as all my ribbons are far field and I can't place them up close next to the SM57 for the phase relationship to work.
