Deej, don't forget that in the runup to the Iraq war Judith Miller was pretty
much an unpaid war pimp for Cheney's office. Also, for the first couple of
years the paper was rabidly pro war. Only when their readership started to
demand it did they pipe down a bit.

I suggest you discuss the definition of liberty with the people actually in
Venuzuela...I'm sure they (like most others) might take issue with your personal
problem with the President...

You have no idea what life is like in other countries, do you?

Actually the media story changed when it became more popular to switch
sides. pro war was selling more papers for a time... now anti war
serves the same purpose.

LaMont, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt here
and assume good motives on your part.

What concerns me is that you use the admission that Chavez
is a dictator as simply another opportunity to blast Bush.

This does NOT make your case against Bush stronger, it
makes it weaker because you are not willing to stand against
Chavez. It makes you seem like a dishonest lefty blowhard
who hates his country so much that he will praise anyone
who criticizes it, no matter how wretched they are.

I prefer to think that is not the case.

If it is, then:
What makes you different from the anti-communist idiots
who put us on the side of the mujahadeen against the
russians in the Russian war in Afghanistan?

Is the enemy of your enemy really your friend?

Back in the 1970's after we left Vietnam, there was a
humanitarian disaster as the victorious north took revenge
on those who had opposed them in the south. There were
thousands of "boat people" doing anything they could to
escape torture and death and many died. Millions died in
Cambodia as the new dictators pursued ideological purity.

So, Joan Baez spoke out against the persecution of these
"boat people" by the new communist leaders. She called
fo peace and forgiveness in the new Vietnam.

Guess what? She was blasted by Jane Fonda. When asked why,
Jane responded that it was unacceptable to criticize a
communist government! We on the left just don't DO that,
don't you see?

My point is that you have to be either Jane or Joan. You do
NOT have to be a conservative to tell the truth about Chavez,
and telling the truth about Chavez does not mean you have to
like Bush.

It simply means you have to be honest.

Aaron,

I see/hear/read paraphrases of what you posted all the time. On bumperstickers,

The thing that f@#(*&( kills me about it, every time I hear/see/read it from

I think Aaron's point is valid. Saying communism is Ok is anti American!
Many people died so you can be free. Those people fought the the Nazis
and the Communist.

Yep, it's all the USA's fault. People are really happy down there, they just
love there new oppression. Lack of freedom is a real good thing! Freedom,
choice, democracy who needs it!!! It's all over rated. Bring on the communism
and tell the people that they own the country. Nothing like communist twisting
the truth!

Chuck,

I agree actually. But I wonder where the line is? Isn't there a line
that you cannot cross and still belong here? There is for me, and there
is for many others. Do you have one? I'll bet you do.

If we have none, and you can say anything you wish, then does being
an american mean anything?

So when they start killing and oppressing people as communist always do, will
that go a long with your Christen beliefs? I don't see how the two fit.

Just because Chavez is a communist and wants a communist government doesn't
mean that the people want it. I think they are proving that by their protesting.
Oh yeah, I forgot, that's just the dictator Bush's CIA at work, not the
real people of Venezuela.

One thing it should always mean is that you can say what you think. Even
if it is extremely critical of US policies. This is the most basic principle
that this country was founded on.
Try to remember what it is that you are so bent on defending. Basic American
ideals. Like freedom of speech!

The Black Panthers a peaceful group??? They even killed some of there own!
My dad had friends that were cops back then that told my dad they had cells
all around St. Louis and Detroit. They were organizing and planning to take
over the cities by force when they raided them, thanks to the help of black
cops!

May be there concept of doing something about oppression was a good one at
the time, but they were a violent group that was calling for armed resistance
from the get go. Had they been peaceful and not a militant group that killed
people, maybe they could have done some good. Their hate did them in!

Some people may not pay for it, but it definitely wouldn't be free.

Yeah, like pissing on a crucifix and calling it freedom of speech. But when
it comes to a nativity seen or the ten commandments the greasy schmucks in
the ACLU are ready to sue. Where is the freedom of speech then?

Yes it's anti American to say communism is Ok! And it disrespects those
who fought and died for your freedoms.

Please.. I'm not a communist, but this is the land of free. Free to workship
any religion you see fit. Free to believe want you want. Free to say what
you want.

I'm with you... But where is the line? Can you say that I hope we lose

a war? Can you say the president should be killed? Can you yell "fire"
in a crowded theater? Can you incite to riot? Can you publish information
that is likely to cause the death of US military personnel?

It is so damn easy to be for "free speech" and so damn hard to admit
that nothing is free...

DC . The line should be drawn by first getting rid of this President. Then
holding him up for charges of treason..

You can say fire. We have a president that calls everyone who does agree
with him a terroist and anti-american. And it's seems that people like you
believe in his bull-shit.

LaMont, your thinking is way off! You can't blame everything on Bush.

My Canadian friends have to come over here because the waiting list for things
like surgery or even test results are so long. It doesn't work there, and
it wont work here, if our government runs it. Our government mismanages
everything!!!!!!!! Yes there should be some kind of low cost or free healthcare.
It should only be for American citizens!

Social Security is a joke! The idiots in government keep robbing it to pay
for their pork programs. The first law should be that they can't touch it
because they never pay it back and it's our money! Second should be that
the people have a choice in how it's invested, it's our money!!! They should
have split programs where you can have it invested in different accounts
so that it's diversified.

The mentality that the government should take care of you is a bad one.
The free ride in this country is going to be over soon!!!!!!!!

DC, i know his hard for you to believe, but there are many in this country
who are real americans and love this country that will no longer just Take
what spews out the war mongering propaganda machine call ed the Bush administration..
For that fact, it could be the Clinton administration.

Look.. Iraq has taught us that, trying to impose our will aka capitalism,
does not work. Not in the y2k
nor did it work in 70s. Counntries like Iraq like the Strong Man concept..

Now, back to Chavez. He is a hereo to millions of people. The only news you
get about chavez is on the 6:00 oclock news. Do some real research and you'll
be surprise about what you'd find out about this man.
Let's face it, you gotta have pretty big balls to take on the US ..

You want to say it's racism, it's not, but since we are on the subject...

Since people are free to say what they want, is Whity the blue eyed devil
free to say the N word? Is that Ok? Or are there some lines you shouldn't
cross? Are you just pissed or can you actually see my point? I believe
there some things you just don't say!

By the way, the immigration point I was trying to make is, the middle class
is being killed off. It's not a race thing. The things you have work so
hard for will be given away. There won't be a middle class for you and I
to be part of! This could happen.

First you defend the Panthers and then you once again make the Chavez
issue about Bush.

No sale. None for me thanks... Man, you ain't hurtin' Bush, you
ain't even hurtin' James. You are just hurting LaMont.

I am impressed.

You can't say ANYTHING against him can you?

Here's your Mr. Bigballs right here

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8PE78LG0&show_a rticle=1

He is a coward and a tyrant.

You talk about free speech being so american. Evidently you don't think
the Venezuelans deserve it though, since their dictator has such big balls
and all.

Are Venezuelans less human than americans?

Speaking of freedoms, here are more of the CIA Bush lackeys marching in the
streets of Caracas. Might want to read the information on the subject.

Common sense give the answer to this often asked question. If in doubt, ask
yourself how would the framers of our constitution come down on these issues,
my guess:
Can you say the president should be killed? Probably not, and any direct
threats against the president are illegal, but our country was born out of
a revolution against the current rulers. The men that wrote the constitution
did believe in keeping a close eye on our government and calling them on
it whenever they got a little too powerful.

Can you yell "fire"in a crowded theater? No

Can you point out when our leaders are ridiculously incompetent and possibly
breaking the law? Yes
Can you say out loud that you believe another form of government is just
as good or better then ours ABSOLUTLY?

Jefferson would be LOL.

Literally from Common Sense (Thomas Paine published 1776)

The prejudice of Englishmen, in favour of their own government, by King,
Lords and Commons, arises as much or more from national pride than reason.
Individuals are undoubtedly safer in England than in some other countries:
but the will of the king is as much the law of the land in Britain as in
France, with this difference, that instead of proceeding directly from his
mouth, it is handed to the people under the formidable shape of an act of
parliament. For the fate of Charles the First hath only made kings more subtle
 not more just.
Wherefore, laying aside all national pride and prejudice in favour of modes
and forms, the plain truth is that IT IS WHOLLY OWING TO THE CONSTITUTION
OF THE PEOPLE, AND NOT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE GOVERNMENT that the crown
is not as oppressive in England as in Turkey.
