Yes, donate to Mike!

I just threw him much belated cash, especially for this latest work.

No need to donate to me (well, I mean, like, well, unless you insist ;o)
but Mike is actually taking a day off work a week to do this for us. We owe
it to him to make sure he gets that lost cash back and some.

He's the man and deserves some support. It's a tough time for spare cash,
sure, but if more people went to the effort of donating to donationware I'd
bet there would be a lot more of it about.

And look at it this way... better that you give him $10 than nothing, and
surely there are lots of people who are willing to do that. It all adds up.

But don't stop there... we've got TV's, Dishwashers, and more Paris Plugs
all going out at crrrrrrraaaaaaazy prices!

Seriously, he's taken a big risk for us. Whatever you can afford. He's really
pushing things along and he does deserve a Merry Christmas methinks. :o)

Cheers,
Kim.

Hi Kim,

Thanks so much for the money you sent (which you shouldn't have - I owe you
just as much if not more for this site!). It's been a lot of work putting
these together, and it has also been a lot of fun.

I'm not taking a day off a week right now because I got a 3 month teaching
contract, though I did do that for a few months. I may be back at it a day
a week in February when the contract is over. That's slowed development
a bit, but I've managed the reverb and the multiband since I started, so
I'm still making progress.

I appreciate the help. I must be insane, but I literally took 3 university
courses for the sole purpose of working PARIS. It's opened up doors that
made me non-paris money, but I do appreciate any help people can provide.

I'm really glad to hear that the multiband is a hit!

Hi Rod,

I took two two intro CS courses at the University of Toronto. They were
both in Java, but gave me a good foundation in object oriented code and c
style syntax. I then took a third course at York University, and that one
was also in Java. Last summer, I spent two or 3 evenings with a friend of
mine who helped me make the leap to C++ by going over the PARIS code with
me and explaining the differences between Java and C++.

Hi Rod,

I took two two intro CS courses at the University of Toronto. They =
were
both in Java, but gave me a good foundation in object oriented code =
and c
style syntax. I then took a third course at York University, and that =
one
was also in Java. Last summer, I spent two or 3 evenings with a =
friend of
mine who helped me make the leap to C++ by going over the PARIS code =
with
me and explaining the differences between Java and C++.

The course at York was actually the first class in a computer science =
degree
that I could continue at at any time. I may finish it eventually. =

now, I just need to get a career off the ground and make some money.

I bought my girlfriend a ring this morning. A special thanks goes out =

;o) Which reminds me I MUST update the links section...

;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

Mike,

"I just need to get a career off the ground and make some money."

You recently tackled *FOUR* of the most esoteric programming tasks you will
ever encounter.

1. Fragile, template rich (generic) c++ classes UI control code

2. Undocumented, fragile inhouse markup language for UI specifications

2. Interacting in realtime with algorithms running on another CPU (the esp2)

3. Modifying and compiling ESP2 assembler with nothing more to go on than
previous examples....

You did it without documentation, and on the esp2 side no interactive debugging.
It either works or it blows the hell up.

The passion it takes to pull something like this off is huge. There's no
reason why you can't be pulling in 100-150K a year within two years if programming
is the way you want to go.

Chuck

Ya know, much as I can't stand the idea of programming at a desk all day...

....maybe I should learn some new languages. Really. ;o)

Anybody got any good book suggestions? ;o)

Cheers,
Kim.

Thanks for these kind words, Chuck. I really appreciate them. I had some
pretty good example code to learn from, though. I can't imagine what you
went through. As for a programming career, we'll see how things turn out.
My teaching contract is up at the end of January, and then I'll spend some
time thinking about my next steps.

I'm having a really good time reading about WDM drivers. That is some awesome
complexity! It's not as complex as Sanskrit was, but it's still pretty awesome.
:)

Mike
