Hi Everyone

Haven't posted here in awhile because I just built a house and my Paris
stuff is in boxes. My 3 year old son has an unusual interest in music and
particulary drums. I found this set on Craigslist and thought I might throw
the 200 bucks at it.

http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=205279

Obviously, it's hard to give much guidance on a set for a 3 year old, but
any input would be appreciated. Right now he is banging on some makeshift
drum toys and boxes and is the type to become fixated on things. I have a
feeling he'll play it day and night for months on end (which could become
really annoying, but we must promote the musical thing)

The only real concern is the size of the drums...they're way too big for a
three year old.

A friend of mine bought a used remo junior drum kit..four piece and it was
perfectly sized for a very small kid and didn't sound too bad at all.

You might look at ebay under ludwig junior drums or possibly look at an
electric kit, the added bonus being they're quiet.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about the size. Those junior drums look
interesting. It looks like I can get them new for $300. Thanks

Be more prone to recommend something like these for a small child:

Nice thing about that 2nd choice is it'll double as a pretty sharp sounding
studio kit. Those things have a load of punch to them. Of course, you
realize none of these are going to have cymbals? Sales trick to get you
looking and hooked. You can blow a nominal amount or a boatload on cymbals,
but you really do get what you pay for on that item.

I was going to link to that one...not bad a bad price

The only down side about this kit will be the cymbals...no doubt they will
be mediocre at best and imagine the hardware will be so-so but for $300 you
really can't go wrong.

Let's put it this way I'd have no problem buying this kit for my son...if he
was three years old

Barry, that says it does but they will be cheap of course, which precludes
much studio work.. however, for a 3 yr old I wouldn't sweat that. I would
not rush out and get a full set up of high dollar sabians or zildjians in
this instance, and ... well... for what your paying on this whole kit, I've
paid that for one higher end cymbal. My opinion is also that I would not get
the black.. they look dusty and nasty easy, and the wine red won't do that
or show fingerprints nearly as easily.

I'd say go for it, this looks like the right deal for the budding young
percussionist.

I'll probably give it a shot and hope he actually becomes the next Ringo

My brother bought his 8 year old daughter a 5 grand TD20 set (same as mine)
and I almost fell over. This girl is a spoiled brat with no drive to do
anything and this set will be a waste on her. Don't buy kids expensive stuff
until they show years of talent and drive. Save the money.
