Sadly, it seems there hasn't been much activity here from Doug Wellington in a year or so; I'm guessing he's got too much going on to continue his PARIS hardware hacking for the moment.

But I was thinking about the motorized faders he had been working on. It seems to me that if we've successfully reverse-engineered the RS-422/faux MIDI protocols the C16 uses, why couldn't we wrap them in software and create a virtual C16 interface for a touchscreen like an iPad or Android tablet? Imagine having all your faders, buttons, etc. available virtually... you could zoom, there would be no need for motorization - the faders would always reflect the current state of the mix. (And imagine all that room you'd save on your mixing desk...!)

There are so many possibilities... Imagine you have 12 tracks of drums, but you only have 2 EDS cards, so you have four non-drum tracks on your second submix. You could assign the faders from those tracks to a view with submix 1 and control them without ever having to worry about the drums. (I'm sure you can come up with better examples, but that's all I've got at 4:30am.)

Has anyone thought about/done this? I don't know what the state of documentation for the C16 protocol is, nor am I good enough to code an app of my own, but I'd be more than willing to pay for a solid app someone developed to do it.
