Cubase has asked me the question:=20
Pending Connections: Direct Music/Midex 3.1.
Should this be assigned to my MIDI card?
It isn't listed as one of the options. The only thing
Midi related is Midi Map. Is this where it should be?
Everything is working now with it assigned to the
Delta 66 A-B out. =20

I am in need of a new ide drive. Is Seagate the current
'go to' drive company? I'm looking at the 7200 - 8 meg cache job.

Thanks for all your answers.
Tom

"Pending connections" means that this item was assigned last time you
worked on the project, but now it isn't (or the destination device has
moved or changed). You see this a lot when moving projects between
studios/systems. If you are not using Direct Music, go into the
settings and assign it to no connection (or however they word it) and
resave.

Thanks Dave. I doubt that I'm using
direct music since I don't know what it is.
What is that anyway?

Any ideas on the hard drive choice of today?
I remember Aaron stating that even Seagate=20
may be going through some changes.

Direct Music is a type of midi port driver developed by MS... some
useful info here:

http://www.jay.fm/blog/pc-midi-timing-and-nuendo.html

Yes, Seagate good... using loads of them here and relatively trouble
free. The just bought someone... Quantum I *think*. Hopefully they
don't take anything from the acquisition except market share!

David.

Hey Tom,
I'm using Seagates as both my system and audio drive. Both have been =
working for about four months under moderate usage without any troubles. =
After reading articles on this site: http://www.storagereview.com/
I felt very comfortable going with Seagate. In order to access the =
reliability data you have to jump through some small hoops, but I think =
its worth it. =20

Seagate is still the way to do it AFAIK. They bought Maxtor FYI, but I =
don't think we'll see any changes real soon, gearing up/down takes a =
little while to enter the pipe for purchasers.=20

Where's the best place to get drives these days?

What do y'all think about this one: Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200JD
320GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer?

Little more space and less $$ than the closest Seagate...

Cheers,
-Jamie

These are the words I want to hear. Thanks Aaron.

I wonder why people want these extra large drives with Paris?
I limit mine to 80 gig. It's room for about two full albums
in most cases used for backups only. I have my clients buy 40
or 80 giggers too just 'cause they're inexpensive. They usually don't=20
get past 20-30 gig on a project. My concern is if a huge drive like
Jamie's talking about (320 gig) goes down and it's any where close
to full you lose a lot of data. Spooky thought. I do make backups
but if a huge backup goes down it's even more work to (as Rage says)
"Rectify" . Awesome tune.

The only thing I know is, I've been using WD's for the last 5 years with no
problems. I wanted to add a second drive to my new G5 and ordered two 250
Gig WD Caviar's (one for my son's comp). Both drives were DOA. Ordered two
equivalent Seagate's (about $10.00 more each) and no problems at all. Now
I'm spooked about the WD's. Maybe it was just bad luck, but still not a good
feeling. Newegg.com had good prices and they have an excellent return policy
so that's where I bought.

Cubase has asked me the question:
Pending Connections: Direct Music/Midex 3.1.
Should this be assigned to my MIDI card?
It isn't listed as one of the options. The only thing
Midi related is Midi Map. Is this where it should be?
Everything is working now with it assigned to the
Delta 66 A-B out.

I am in need of a new ide drive. Is Seagate the current
'go to' drive company? I'm looking at the 7200 - 8 meg cache job.

Thanks for all your answers.
