Newegg has totally screwed up the 3 order in a row this year, so I'm done
wit 'em. Does anyone have a vendor/reseller they are currently using and
happy with? I need to drop close to a grand on new LCD's, and quick, as I'm
scrambling to meet deadlines for install.

Thanks guys!

Hey Aaron,
I don't know that this will help you, and I don't know about the quality,
but the price is attractive.

Aaron,
Also www.tigerdirect.com can have astounding prices
from time to time. Big company like NewEgg though.

Hey Aaron,

I've always had very good luck with Newegg to be honest, but maybe that's
been just luck. I've picked up thousands of dollars worth of gear from them
over the past few years.

Other options. Best Buy isn't awful as long as you get their web pricing
on gear you can pick up locally. For displays there's the added advantage
of seeing it in the store. I own four or five Dell displays and have always
found them to be good to excellent bargains. You can watch for specials on
your own or check out

http://www.techbargains.com/cheaplcdmonitor.cfm

which is a great resource.

Contrary to what someone else here said, I wouldn't buy from Tigerdirect
using your credit card. They're shady gray marketers of the worst kind.

Lastly, every now and the Staples or Office Depot will wind up with some
absurd deal on some odd component, which might be a display. Certainly worth
a look on their web sites on Thursday to see what the weekend bargain bin
will be holding.

Good luck, and you really can't go wrong with Dell displays, we have 70+
of them where I work and a bunch 'round the house. Never had a problem and
that's statistically a pretty solid sample.

Sorry to hear Newegg has fallen through for you - they've always been dead
on with my orders (3 PCs worth of parts, multiple separate orders, other
gear, etc).

I would have suggested Tiger Direct until I read Thad's post on them... I
might think twice about going there myself.

Actually, if you are getting LCDs, Costco or Sam's Club might be a decent
alternative as prices are better than BestBuy. Barring that, I would just
go retail to get the install done, even though BestBuy isn't necessarily a
great resource.

For 7 years I've been thrilled with Newegg and have also spent thousands
with them. But something has happened this year, starting in January.
Screwed up shipping, leaving single boxed items on a public porchway with a
big friggin SHUTTLE COMPUTER on the side of it 2x - first shuttle was bad,
RMA took weeks and it just sat in their warehouse for days until I called to
bitch about it. First LCD was bad out of the box then they tried to short me
$50 on the unannounced refund (I called tonight - it's been sitting in their
warehouse since Feb 20th. By their own rules to be replaced 4x before a
refund) and the list goes on - all since Jan when I started ordering parts
for the quad core system. Finally tonight after they said they would charge
me on the shipping of an item they are refunding anyway because 'they' can't
get stock on another (and I'll never see the part from them) , I told them
to take a hike and they just lost a seriously loyal customer - buyer beware
to you guys. I'm patient, but that's absolute BS and I'm not putting up with
that behaviour.

James, I checked out the Soyo units, JEEZ THAT IS A BIG SCREEN! I can't even
fit those in my net workstation area (gotta have 2 of 'em, heh)... probably
most I can fit in is 22's.
Anybody using Soyo here by chance?

Tom.. curious what you're using for LCD's and what you think of it/them?
Right now I'm pretty wide open for suggestions but I have to move soon or
miss some production deadlines for my band (cause frankly, I can't friggin
see enough desktop on one monitor to be efficient and the 3rd one I 'had'
ordered from Newegg was for the portable rig so it's even tougher to see
with 'no' monitor, hahaha...)

Thad, I have been considering the Dell FP's as well. At work I have
somewhere in the neighborhood of 125+ of them - zero fails. And I get some
kind of employee discount I'll check into tomorrow, for sure. Agree that's a
pretty solid record we both are seeing. Other brands I'm considering are
Acer (great personal luck, got 5 of those here - no hassles but none have
the DVI-D port I need for quad heaven), Samsung and ViewSonic unless someone
has a reason for me to steer off those names?

Thanks dudes!

Yeah, I may have to do that in the name of 'git er done' unfortunately. The
stores here, not so plentiful/great I'm afraid. CompUSA was the biggest
parts house for PC stuff, and you have a few dabble-in-it companies like
Best Buy, staples and Wal Mart, then the Ma and Pa shops that hit you pretty
hard because they just can't compete with volume, then end up out of
business 6 months later anyway. I am soooo bummed Newegg pulled up so lame
to the water trough man. My experience has been pretty ixnay on the
Tiger`ay, but I stopped with them probably 5 years back so things might be
different now? I may have to renew the ole' Sams card, but no Costco in
Oklahoma that I'm aware of.
Options, good good thing D. Thanks man!

btw.. did you guys get snow up there today? Freak weather here, sunny and
motorcycle weather yesterday, today frozen toes, ice and snow. I'm ignoring
Bill L's post :)

I've been wondering about those man, they seem awfully low priced in
comparison and seem to be everywhere now. I can't see anything short of the
warranty (1 year) that seems to be off base on them.
Anyone using the HannsG units?

You guys rock!

What about one of the big box's online outlets, if they don't
have enough of 'em in stock locally? They can ship
fedex if you need it.

Here in west TX: weekend = Sunny & in the high 70's/low 80's
Sunday night = started clouding over, temp dropped, snow
flurries. Monday (& Tuesday so far) = cold & breezy, low's in
the 30's.

http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProd uctDisplay?storeId=10001&jspStoreDir=Staples&product Id=207132&cmSearchKeyword=725240+&fromUrl=home&c mArea=SEARCH&catalogId=10051&langId=-1

2 of 'em for $434.05 delivered to my door in 2 days. I tried to deal with
Dell, but they were a good $90 over that by the time I picked up 3 of them
with all discounts, which is the next step in this equation (#3). Knocking
off $10 from list on each is nice, but not cutting it with the slightly
lesser contrast specs, with same warranty.... and I have a Staples I can go
bang on if one dies 1.5 miles from my workplace, so it was a no brainer.

Interesting side note.. the HannsG site says this model has a 4 port USB on
it, and staples doesn't list that at all. Not that I care that much, but it
might be a nice little bonus. It also conflicts with Staples listing of a
whopping 1w speaker input, and says a monsterous 3w (LOL) x 2, and again
18.5 lbs/HG vs 12.2/Staples. - will keep y'all posted. Probalby just a
revision change and Staples is blowing out the 'old' model.

I continue to be pleased at the help and knowledge all you dudes have. Many
thanks!

Got 'em in today... all I can say is absolute love. Only thing that kinda
cheesed was the lack of a HDMI to DVI-D cable/adaptor. Luckily, the computer
shop across town was open 'til 8 and had one for $20. Just connected them,
and the res on my vid card was capable of the native 1680 x 1050 it hadn't
shown before, even w/o a reboot. Color tone is fantastic on 'em, and
readability superb.
Gosh I love the tech available these days.

I picked up the 3rd monitor I needed while in the shop, and I'm sure it's
all good - bought the floor model, got a bit of a discount for it and I
could see that there were no dead/stuck pixels so we're good to go on time
:)

Many thanks again to all who assisted

I know its kinda late in this thread but maybe you guys should give ADK
(Chris Ludwig) a shot at it.I have purchased a few system parts from them
and found them to be competitive .
I usually use price watch and try to guess which company is going to screw
me the least .
just a suggestion Aaron :-)
