Coming to WinXP now - $595 srp. Is it me, or are some convolution verbs a
bit steep considering that SIR does a very respectable job, as does
Voxengo's Pristine Space. Not to mention Samplitude Pro comes with a very
nice one and you get a multitrack DAW as an added bonus ;-)
I guess the "free" included impulses are pretty expensive to create.

The best resource for impulses that I know of (there are a few smaller sites
too):

W2 is $499 - not much less than Altiverb for XP. Waves IR-1 is $800; $400
for IR-L. So I guess Altiverb sits in the middle of those. Then there is
Pristine Space for $139. Some people claim W2 sounds better than SIR and
PS, but I haven't tested it.
Yeah, it isn't me after all. Whew, that was a close one. ;-)

I just recently went to a ProTools Chicago meeting (sorry to use the
"P"-word) where we looked into five different impulse-based reverb plugins.
The general consensus was that it doesn't much matter which one you use as
far as available presets goes, because you can import/export responses
between the plugs anyway. In fact, it's perfectly legal (the presenter
assured us of this) to just buy one plug where you like the
parameters/adjustments, and then do the 14-day trial of all the others and
import their libraries into the one plug you bought. He did say that
Altiverb tends to be the one that has the most frequenly updated/rapidly
growing library, though.
